Drying Buds, spongy or crispy?

I'm thinking about which would be the best way to dry some bud... around 50oz.... Usually, I chop full branches off, trim all the leafs, then hang the full branch by its lowest nug over a rope/chain...

After around 8/9/10 days with extraction still on. @ room temp, the buds are super crispy...

Now i know people say about putting buds in mason jars, with veg of some sort... but there is no way im going to be jarring this lot up like that....
Im thinking... If I dry the buds for 9/10 days, then add my humidifier into the room (on low) for 24 hrs..??? would this help the buds become a spongier consistency again... without rot problems...? Or any other way of using the humidifier...?

Also... & maybe my most important Question.... Is spongy bud heavier than crispy bud..? & once spongy, will it retain this sponginess if left out of a jar? :O)

I've always dried bud to be crispy... so im just curious to see if I could dry this bud & get a better weight result from it...

Thank guys, smoke a fatty for me..!:tiphat:

I jar mine at about 65% humidity level and keep burping the containers in 4-6 hour intervals until it stays at 60%. I came to this stage by following the above mentioned sticky by Simon. It really is the way to go. The Caliber II was one of my best investments. Growing it is only half the work. A person can grow some stinky stank supreme but if it isn't cured well it will never be topshelf. Glass containers are my preference.

If you want to improve the taste & aroma, maybe the potency as well, check out simon's cure-

It's obviously adaptable to larger amounts in larger containers, maybe with these-

It seems to work for a lot of people. The key, apparently, is to not overdry, but rather to approach optimum from higher moisture content. Moist buds will obviously weigh more than crispy dry ones. You'd need to experiment some to find out if that's significant.

If you have no plans for resale water cure the stash and you will have perfectly cured buds in only seven days.

I hang mine for 4 days, then one day in paper bags, the jars on the next day.
Each case of half gal mason jars holds about a pound, so 4 cases will do ya.
But we trim everything wet, so it dries much faster.

just turn your room into a huge jar and dry/cure in there a little. same principle on a larger scale. dry your weed like you said 7 days or whatever, when they are feeling extra crispy on the outside and still a little spongy to the squeeze turn off your fans and close the door up and block the vents. the next day air out the room with door open or fans on low whatever is good for you. after a couple hours of airing, then close it up again for another day. slow dry and bottling that humidity from the moist buds should help your dry the weed slower and then you can pack it in totes like that other guys said once fully dry.

needless to say watch for mold right?

even if you don't do my idea drying a huge amount of weed like that in a room still causes the humidity to skyrocket.

Geez, some of this sounds complicated. I air dry mine crispy, until the stems snap, then into mason jars, burped once a day for a couple of weeks.

How much 'damage', if any, would leaving buds to dry in a cupboard for a couple of extra days than usual?

If i was going away for a couple of weeks and didn't have a choice, would it be that detrimental?

Thanks.

A couple of days longer than usual. 12 days rather than 7-8 days.

I hang the whole plant minus fan leaves in a room with 60% rh until the main stem crisply snaps. The buds are still slightly spongy and very sticky and greasy, yet burn perfect in a joint due to the consistency of the humidity.
I also feel that taste is the best at this particular stage although the high is better after a few burp free weeks in the jars.

when you over-dry your buds, you are not only making them smoke harsh, but your are losing valuable water soluble terpenes. This is why you shouldn't 'water-cure', terrible...'innovation' if you will.
