Drunken Macgyver's Grow Journal

Hello IC! I've been a lurker for the past 4 years or so. More so in the hash/concentrate forums but here I am with my first grow tent. Not my first grow but definitely my first time setting up my own tent and going from seed indoors.

First and foremost, thank you all who have taken a peep at what I have going so far. Please feel free to chime in with any do's and don'ts that may have slipped my mind.

Growing in my tent are 12 Dream Cookie seedlings from MSG.

Also sprouting are some Candyland, Super Glue, Green Crack bag seed for a couple friends/my outdoor grow.

Upon speculation I would have purchased a smaller light for veg but my budget was tight and I'm working with what I have for now.

I did all my research online and went into my local hydro store to see if I could get a better deal and maybe some last-minute advice on set up and execution. On my order was the biggest HPS hood I've ever seen. It's something like XXL from UltraGROW. It definitely puts out some heat, seeing as my exhaust fan is due to arrive tomorrow. For now I am pushing air through my hood with a 6-inch Can-Fan. I am able to keep the temps stable between 77F and 84.5F.

A couple of the seedlings did experience some heat stress and were stunted from overwatering as well. So far out of the 12 seedlings from the MSG pack, 7 are flourishing, 2 are heat stressed; and 2 are very stunted. 1 did not sprout.

I will be using the Roots Organic Uprising dry amendment line for the majority of my macronutrients. As far as micronutrients go I have an array of dry amendments I have stockpiled during my forum lurking.

Those would include:

"GROW" Bat Guano 5-5-5
Kelp Meal .6-.5-2.5
Oyster Shell Flower (Ca 35%)
Azomite (P + trace elements)
Greensand (K + trace elements, slow release for recycling soil)
Sul Po Mag 0-0-18
+
Leftover EWC

I started with Roots Organic 707 soil. Mixed in some EWC for my seedlings. Then I mixed up the rest of the soil with at least 20% EWC and perlite. I added a small amount of amendments to be safe. That being about a cup greensand, half a cup of azomite, and a cup of sul po mag. I realize I should have been more specific and possible even added the kelp meal and oyster shell flower but I did not want to go overboard seeing as I can not take out what I put in. I will also be using Roots Organic Uprising as I mentioned before and I don't think any of us know what the amounts/ratios of ingredients are in those bags.

The purpose of this Thread is to keep track of what I'm doing and to *fingers crossed* not make any more stupid mistakes. (If I do I will appreciate them as learning/characterizing experiences)

Thanks again everyone. I hope I have made some sense and provided most of the necessary info... Happy growing :)

UPDATE: in the height of the heat stress and overwhelmingly trying to keep my babies intact.. I did the buildasoil tek for instant kelp meal tea. I did a light soil drench and a 1/3 strength foliar feed just before the lights were coming on the last two days. Perked them right up. Debating whether or not to keep doing foliars or just wait until they are ready for their first EWC tea and throw in some Kelp Meal. Will be installing exhaust fan tomorrow evening. Bye bye heat stress.....

Update March 18, 2017

Update March 18, 2017

So here we are on Day 11. If anyone feels like/has time to chime in, can you tell me if my healthy plants are at a good rate of growth for being 11 days from sprout? I have 6 healthy Dream Cookie seedlings. Doing my best not to overworry/water. Did 2 Kelp Meal foliar feeds total. Didn't like how heavy and droopy it made the little guys.

Night time temps: 74-79
Lights on temps: 83.1-85.1 (absolute max)

I've read that constant heat is less of a stressor than heat spikes. My temps are very consistent. However when I wake up in the morning to check on everybody, sometimes the lights on temp can be as low as 74, but I'd imagine that's not for very long.

Posted pictures of the

6 healthy Dream Cookie seedlings
4 Dream Cookie runts
The rest are Green Crack seedlings among a few random bag seed and 1 Super Glue

Humidity is constant at 35-40%
I have found ways to raise it but they were not consistent and a little messy
(Pot of water with towel half in, misting walls of tent, keeping larger pots full of moist soil in the tent, etc)
