dresser grow cab

love?

So wait you're gonna build a new door for it? Then I guess it might be possible to turn it on it's side (without it looking weird) so that it's 4 feet tall instead of 3... Depends on the shape of the dresser though... Anyways, just an idea because it's kinda short as it is at least for my tastes.

Hey toker, I just started my dresser a couple weeks back! I hope I can inspire you to get some ideas. also I'll write some others down

I hope you dont mind me linking in on your thread, and feel free to comment mine, while I'll be checking back to this thread often giving you any advice I can!

my stealth dresser construction

check that out. as for 2 sections, this can be very hard if you won't be installing proper ventilation, also 2 sections in a dresser is hard because of the akward surfaces of the interior walls (none of mine were just flat!) as for a back door I used small $1.50 hinges at a local hardware store (I put in 8 between back panel and dresser. I've seen alot of people have been using velcro with much success, so check that out too.

Also pontiac and some others have the official ICMAG DIY link-o-rama (DIY= do it yourself) with great tips on dressers and anything.

I'm also doing a CFL setup, check my last page to see what it's starting to look like and feel free to jump to my thread and I will be visiting here regularly :)

thanx man i checked out ur dresser urs looks to be larger. ur gonna be able to grow some nice plants in there. my idea has changed a bit i want to grow more smaller plants so i wont be tipping it up. im thinkin diesel riders if i can make seed with what i have. i like autos alot. the dresser is smaller then i though from what i can remember its 1 and a half feet deep 4 feet wide and 2 and a half feet tall. so a lil less space then i thought. its gonna take me a while to get all of this together so i can run it cuz im strapped for money right now. but slowly everything will fall into place.

I had some ideas for money tight people if you read through my thread! if you have NO money, thats a different story :p. I'm personally too broke to afford seeds right now so I'm waiting on that then it starts

Actually your dresser will be much larger than mine! Mine looks alot bigger in the pictures but it is not.

the dimensions after everything was finalized yesterday measures 12.5" Depth x 25" Width x 31" Height. so basically 1foot x 2feet x 2.5feet.

If space is a problem no need to grow many littles (unless you have space for a mother then do that and clone to high heaven! and do a million little babies!) but if you can't do a mother and don't have alot of seeds then you could always LST. i'm LSTing to keep what would be a 2-3 foot tall plant about 10" to 16" tall after budding!

good vibes, and I hope you can get to work on the dresser as soon as you're ready!

well i started deconstruction today i took off the back witch is a shitty piece of thin board.1. i might replace it with something better mdf maybe im not sure. the dresser has no bottom board so im gonna have to cuz some plywood to fid in there. im guessing this will work well. 2. im gonna need help with the electrical part of this though i know nothing about that. im still gonna go with cfl's for the grow its either cfl's or a 70 or 100 wat hps. but i dont think that it would work the for the space the hight is fine but 3. the width is what im worried about. what to u guys thing. still thinkin of leaning toward cfls cuz i can pin point where the light is needed 4 . i wan all budz to get as big and potent as possible. i know im not even clost to growing plants in there but im happy iv started deconstruction. im sending good growing vibes to u all.

peace toke out

It feels good to get some work done i bet!

1. be careful with replacing it with MDF- MDF is somewhat heavy (although only ~25 USD for a GIANT slab of it..) it may not easily be held on my velcro.. you would probably need heavy duty hinges for something like that (maybe combine with velcro or giant magnetic latches too and it COULD then be a possibility)
or just keep the thin stuff and use it.. thats what I did and it was most cost effective and it has kept its original dresser look for the most part.

2. Check out my page 4 on my dresser grow, Anti
showed a good inexpensive method to wire up some basic light fixtures for CFL. Also you can see my setup with real hardware-bought 10 gauge wire (which cost me about 8 bucks total for the 8 foot of red and the 8 foot of blue I bought)
If you have any questions on the wiring let me know. Also check my page 4 bottom because pontiac linked me up to a good device protection(and surge protection) plug in that costs 10 bucks at radioshack and he explained that could save your equipment and you from shock.

3) What is your width? My dresser is 24" (2 feet) wide and I dont foresee any problems.. what kind of problems are you thinking?

It seems to me that as long as you have room for your containers whether they be plastic buckets/special buckets/aero/hydro/etc. then there's no concern about width..

I mylared my inside walls but if I had an outdoor or properly ventilated place I would have used cheap spraypaint (white) to cover the inside (tape off the outside so it doesnt show on the outside)

4)I hear you brother I think you speak for us all :joint:

Hope I helped, feel free to ask anything or pop by my thread to get some inspiration or helpful thoughts on electric wiring/construction techniques/tools used/etc etc!)

i have a dresser that a friend gave to me. its 4 feed wide 2 feed deep 3 feet tall. these are rough dimensions.

Take a look at my cab:

It is roughly the same dimension you've got. I've built two chambers with 6x42w CFL in each chamber. I've got 3 exhaust fans and one carbon scrubber. My lights are behind glass .... which was suggested by RedGreenery and I highly recommend to anyone planning a CFL grow! The lights being sealed behind glass with their own fan eliminates much of the heat from your ventilation equation. My cab sit anywhere from +1 to +3 to +5.5 above ambient temp in my house (72 f).

I'd set up a perpetual SOG and take full advantage of your small space.

im not sure how to set it up. i know i need the lights i will be using cfl's. im not sure what i will be used for intake and out take fans this confuses me.
Ideally you'd want an exhaust fan that pulls air through a carbon scrubber (rather than push air into it.) You'd want to cut intake vents that were around twice the size of your exhaust vent. So if you are using a 4" exhaust, you'd want two 4" circular intakes. Or five 2" intakes. You want your exhaust as close to the top as you can get it. You want your intakes close to the floor, or about soil height if you prefer. (Using baffles, you can achieve both conditions:

im not sure how much light i will need for what i want to do
General recommendations from my notes are that 7500 lumen per sq ft and/or 100w per sq ft are recommended for optimal lighting.

If you divide your 4x2x3 cab in half that'd be two 2x2x3 chambers. So each cab would be 4 sq ft. So ideally,8-12 42w lights evenly spaced horizontally behind a pane of glass on each side.

My cab incorporates a relatively large middle section which allows for a light trap and a heat insulator between cabinets that can double as a drying room. You could easily modify what I've done inside the dimensions of your dresser with a drill and a jigsaw and a little time spent.

That's a big topic in and of itself... I wish I could speak from my own experience. I'm going to try LST (just training) without scrog or sea of green..

but I'm also going from seed... from what I've seen most people who do mass amounts of clone seem to do great with sea of green technique because its so many buds closely together using light properly

SOG is one of the most powerful ways to utilize a small space. Basically, you're going to grow a bunch of plantlets instead of trying to grow a few larger bushes. The advantage to this scenario is that you can cram a bunch of them right next to one another, because they're going to be cloned and start flowering pretty much right after rooting.

Since they'll be flowering while they're just one grow tip on a stem, they'll have a tendency to just grow straight up and produce a nice single cola, rather than branching out all over the place and making a bunch of popcorn. So.... instead of 4 plants that have 1-2 main colas each and a bunch of popcorn, you'll have 30 main colas and very little popcorn.

Dr. Bud's threads are a testament to what you can do with a SOG operation on a small scale. Your cab is about the same size as his. On a perpetual SOG you can be harvesting an ounce or two a week, every week.

The only downside to SOG that I'm aware of is related to sentencing guidelines in the area you're growing in.

Some places base their sentencing guidelines on the # of plants, regardless of the size of those plants. In such an area, you'd be better off growing a few MASSIVE plants. In areas where the sentence is based on the total weight of the plants, you might as well grow SOG because the total weight of your plant will have a higher bud to stem ratio.
