Something more about dreadlocks through history. First ever person with dreads was probably some caveman or, if you like, pre-historic man/woman who had hair long enough. First ever historic person (of course, if you believe he was historic person) was St. John the Baptist. He had long hair (like most of Judean people at that time) and he lived in the desert and there's no brushes, no scissors, no combs, so it's easy to figure out why he had dreads.
I remember some history lessons from my highschool, about first Byzantine records of South Slavic tribes arrival to Balkans: they wore "snakes" in their hairs. I doubt they realy had snakes in hair, but that most probably were dreadlocks. And in old Serbian monasteries, on the frescoes, it can be clearly seen people with locks.
