I have some pretty strange thoughts from time to time..... I have taken LSD and had to take several days to fully recover, but no amount of drugs has caused a schizo break to my knowledge. I know better than to trust the doctors in general. Most doctors know only what the sales reps at Big Pharma tell them.

Then again I wouldent live my life according to the expereinces of a guy who lives in a van, down by the river. Lets be mormans!

Good words SZ. Schizophrenia is a very complicated disease and I don't claim to begin to understand it. What I have read is fascinating.

For the record, I don't even own a van. The reference comes from a Chris Farley SNL skit. I actually live in a 4 Bdrm house on a cul-de-sac, right next to YOU!

I havn't read this whole thread yet, but this is on a note with my recent test results from my therapists, 50's being the average person and normal level's I got a 85 in schizofrenia, the highest anyone in his firm has ever had... and I smoke about 3x joints a day...so withoiut reading anything more then the first post, Id say I agree w/ the doctor.

Jesus H. Christ, correlation does NOT equate to causation. Did ya ever stop to think maybe you're just fucked in the head naturally? Most, if not ALL of humanity is, without taking anything to get that way.

I see stoned people.

anyways, I don't know if it can cause schizophernia, I'm not schizo , my dad smokes and he isn't schizo either, but my dad's friend is schizo and he is a heavy smoker and I know one other guy that smokes and became shizo so I have no idea if marijuana can cause it.

I'm not a scientist and most people here aren't either, I guess you can argue that it does and you can argue that it doesn't but most people don't know what the hell they are talking about they are just repeating stuff done in some study.

I would say that mj may contribute to developing to schizo an if you are prone to develop that, look at your family history then you may have a much higher chance.

yes genes play an important role, maybe your great grandfather had schizo and the gene may be non active in you until something causes it.

schizophrenia is a blanket term used by the nascent science of psychiatry that encompasses individuals who suffer from specific symptoms usually, but not exclusively, exemplified by aural hallucinations and paranoia. frontal lobe epilepsy is another term used for similar experiences. mj causes dopamine levels to rise, and this can result in aural hallucinations, paranoia, and senses of mystical states. schizophrenia is an outdated term and although still applied is no more specific than 'old age'. the brain that hasn't fully developed physically, ie that in the under-20s, is prone to neural pathways being incorporated. mj affects those pathways and can lead to chronic disability through over-use, **** this, the shrinks will work it out for themselves eventually.

Using the term "causation" in an academic setting you are basically saying you 100% sure of something. And pretty much anyone in an academic setting that throws this term around casually is considered a hack.

Examples:

-The CIA caused 9/11.
-Touching toads causes warts.
-Wearing a hat causes hair loss.
-Smoking pot causes Schizophrenia.

i knew one guy who ended up in the secure unit at the hospital every time he toked.....

It's a pre-disposition in him to go off the deep end....ganj might well be his trigger, but then so was one of the presription meds they tried him on snt him worse....
A small proportion of the population have a gene that give them a higher rik of maybe developing schizophrenia if the smoke a lot of dope in the teenage years... 1 person in 10,000 that is a small percentage...now their risk increases by a small percentage..
well a small percentage increased risk of almost nothing is stil almost nothing

Im an ashtray fiddler lol... but thats more ocd type behaviour than anything to do with psychosis

The only way to prove causation is with a clinical trial. Correlation doesn't equal causation.

Is is the schizophrenic that seeks the drug? Or is it the drug that creates the schizophrenic? Also read about alcohol and schizophrenia. Also tobacco and schizophrenia. It seems to be a scare tactic. Either that or just about any drug has the same likelyhood (general intoxication) that causes it. Either that or it's the schizophrenic that seeks the drug.

Nothing can be proven causative without a clinical trial. These doctors are MORONS.
