Downsizing a bit:Setting up a 1000 watt Hydrohut with DWC. Advice requested!

So I'm setting up a smallish personal grow in a new hydrohut original 54.5inx54.5inx7ft. I just set up the hut and it is looking pretty good. Luckily, I got the hut with 4 6 inch ducts (see image for placement). I am going to use a thousand watt HPS with an aircooled hood. I will be running a nine bucket recirculating DWC (dropping down from 4000 watts and 24 buckets). I have a few questions regarding some design plans.

I would like to do a dual cooling system. I have a 6 inch 630 cfm Eclipse fan and a 430 cfm vortex 6 inch fan. I would be using the vortex hooked up to my can filter to vent the air in the tent. I was thinking that instead of doing a one for all solution like scrubber>hood>fan, I would do the vented/scrubbed air on one fan and then air cool the lights on their own system. Heres where a few options come in.

If you look at the diagrams below you can see the basic layout. It is getting very cold where I live and we have pretty hardcore winters. Since it will be cold for the next 6 months I figured I could take in the cold air from outside, cool the light, and then vent out of the hut. I could then just switch up in the summer and add an AC to the window.

The only problem that I've thought of so far with that plan is moisture. It rains and snows all winter up here and it seems like all that moisture could have a negative impact on the bulb. I know I could get a motorized damper to eliminate moisture getting in at night, but what about moisture during venting?

Any advice on that? Any other thoughts about ventilation, regardless of whether or not it incorporates the window, are more than welcome. I would also like some input on how I should arrange the fans/ducting in the hut once I figure out what exactly I should do.The scrubber is a no brainer as there is already a dedicated place for it.

Another issue I have is with the DWC. Since I have to keep my plant count down and I already have the equipment I want to continue using blazeoneup's style DWC. The only problem that I have is that I definitely have to keep the reservoir, control, and water chiller outside the hut. So how do I get the 3/4inch return lines and 1/2 in feed line through the hydrohut? Do I have to just sacrifice the liner in the hut and cut holes for the hose through the outside of the hut and through the secondary floor liner? Remember, they have to be ground level.

My third problem has to do with my water chiller. My 1/4 HP water chiller has a minimum flow rate of 633 GPH, which was no problem when I was using a 633 GPH pump for 24 buckets. I can't use the 633 GPH pump on just 9 buckets, it would put too much pressure on the quarter inch valves, especially where they pierce the 1/2 in feed line. I have a 330 GPH pump for this smaller system so i was wondering if it would harm my chiller somehow to run less than the minimum flow rate? Would it just render the chiller less effective?

Thanks for reading my post and please feel free to add any input regardless of whether or not it has to do with my questions. I'm sure I'll have a few more.

i wanna see how u do this i got a very similar setup. i doo 1000 watt in same hut with only a 430 cfm vortex my temp is not right. its still like 80 degrees a foot below the light which sucks. so i dunno what to do. its in a my master bedroom, i just duct into the bedroom. i run the ac in the house so the ambient temp is like 70 degrees and it raises it easily 10 degrees with the 430 cfm vortex. where u get that 630 cfm 6inch? i want one!

Deadhead, I got the fan from a local hydro shop, they swore by it. I just discovered this new shop, the store was great, the staff was awesome, and so were the prices. Got the hut for 240 from them.

Why not just pull ambient air from your house thru your hood and if the air comes out warmer on the other end so what its winter right? free heat for your house. I dont think you want to pull 30 degree air thru your hps and moisture can result in broken bulbs.

I may just do that thanks. What do you think about dumping the exhaust outside?

I hate to bump again guys, but I'd really like some advice. Thanks.

My best advice on bringing the supply and drain lines through the hut would be to use a male and female connector the same size. One end is threaded and the other is solvent(smooth). That would allow you to have a secure connection without any light or water leaks.

Can't really be much help with the chiller.

Not sure about the moisture either. I use a dehumidifier. The area I'm in right now has constant humidity at or near 50%. Without the dehumidifier I would be completely screwed. I just keep it near the air intake and the air that makes its way into the room is fairly dry.

Wish I could be of more use....if nothing else I helped bump this thread up a little.

i plan to also run a 1k in a hydrohut, concerned about the heat issues. plan to run a 400ish cfm vortex through an air cooled hood.

Hey Simple, I was wondering if you gave any thought on using Coco? From what I have read, you don't need a chiller for your res. Coco works fine without a chiller.

This is at least what I have read. Do some research. That might be your answer. I hear great things about it.

hey simpleword how r u? how was your holiday? what ever happened with your 4k grow you stopped posting in the middle of september. did you make it to harvest and if so how did you do weight wise? why are you down sizing? im asking b/c i think id like to try a room that size some day. as far as your questions go i live in a place with high humidty and varying temps so i know your concerns. what i would do with that set-up is i would install a small 6k btu a/c in one of those windows. get a non digital a/c and plug it into a cooling therm (they have a piggy back plug) b/c if the power goes out the digi one will not come back on. i would also put the dehuey outside of the hut. now setting things up this way if your reflector is air cooled your not going to use it like that your just going to pull air from the room through one fan and out the other this way the a/c and dehuey will do there job without having to be in the hut so the room that your hut is in is gonna have to be sealed. i know you have co2 so you could just put that in the room to like the a/c and dehuey (i know youl go through more co2 but so what). if it were me i would also upgrade to a co2 burner instead of those tanks and a sulfur vaporizer for lights off wouldnt be a bad idea either. well good luck and happy new year.
