So I'm setting up a smallish personal grow in a new hydrohut original 54.5inx54.5inx7ft. I just set up the hut and it is looking pretty good. Luckily, I got the hut with 4 6 inch ducts (see image for placement). I am going to use a thousand watt HPS with an aircooled hood. I will be running a nine bucket recirculating DWC (dropping down from 4000 watts and 24 buckets). I have a few questions regarding some design plans.
I would like to do a dual cooling system. I have a 6 inch 630 cfm Eclipse fan and a 430 cfm vortex 6 inch fan. I would be using the vortex hooked up to my can filter to vent the air in the tent. I was thinking that instead of doing a one for all solution like scrubber>hood>fan, I would do the vented/scrubbed air on one fan and then air cool the lights on their own system. Heres where a few options come in.
If you look at the diagrams below you can see the basic layout. It is getting very cold where I live and we have pretty hardcore winters. Since it will be cold for the next 6 months I figured I could take in the cold air from outside, cool the light, and then vent out of the hut. I could then just switch up in the summer and add an AC to the window.
The only problem that I've thought of so far with that plan is moisture. It rains and snows all winter up here and it seems like all that moisture could have a negative impact on the bulb. I know I could get a motorized damper to eliminate moisture getting in at night, but what about moisture during venting?
Any advice on that? Any other thoughts about ventilation, regardless of whether or not it incorporates the window, are more than welcome. I would also like some input on how I should arrange the fans/ducting in the hut once I figure out what exactly I should do.The scrubber is a no brainer as there is already a dedicated place for it.
Another issue I have is with the DWC. Since I have to keep my plant count down and I already have the equipment I want to continue using blazeoneup's style DWC. The only problem that I have is that I definitely have to keep the reservoir, control, and water chiller outside the hut. So how do I get the 3/4inch return lines and 1/2 in feed line through the hydrohut? Do I have to just sacrifice the liner in the hut and cut holes for the hose through the outside of the hut and through the secondary floor liner? Remember, they have to be ground level.
My third problem has to do with my water chiller. My 1/4 HP water chiller has a minimum flow rate of 633 GPH, which was no problem when I was using a 633 GPH pump for 24 buckets. I can't use the 633 GPH pump on just 9 buckets, it would put too much pressure on the quarter inch valves, especially where they pierce the 1/2 in feed line. I have a 330 GPH pump for this smaller system so i was wondering if it would harm my chiller somehow to run less than the minimum flow rate? Would it just render the chiller less effective?
Thanks for reading my post and please feel free to add any input regardless of whether or not it has to do with my questions. I'm sure I'll have a few more.
