Double Potting/Planting

Hi,
What will happen if you place 5 foot tall plant in a 4 gallon pot/planter (bottom cut out) on top of a 7 gallon pot/planter?

Would this give more root growth?

about 5 weeks into flowering..

thanks for any replies..

Someone else is fond of this practice- I think it's called raised potting...

Set the top pot into the soil well because the set-up could get tippy when the plant fills out...

yes, that is something you would do if you want to keep the plant a real long time

a rule of thumb is a gallon for each month the plant is.

But over time, the roots will fill the 7 gallon

Hey I thought that the roots don't grow very much in flowering stage in that you wanted your plant to be a little bit root bound at the end of flowering guess i was wrong in this case I would suggest listening to the doctor.

crawdad,i would'nt transplant that late into flowering unless its like a 12 week flowering plant,if it only a 8 week flowering plant, double potting now is'nt going to do you much good IMO.I like a nice wet/dry cycle in flowering, too much soil and your plant may take to long to dry,its happened to me,just my two cents.Good Luck & Stay Safe!!

i have to agree with bugbud here...depends on what floweringtime they have.....if its a early strain i would't do it...if its a late strain you can give it that xtra mile...rule of thumb is 1 gallon medium for each foot of plant...i don't think it like dog said...each month of age

latest i've ever transplanted is like 3-4 days before flower just so they get settled...root growth SERIOUSLY halts during flower...i only did it that late so that my dirt would hold more water, knowing that the moisture would carry up to the roots from osmosis so i wouldn't have to water every day...you could maybe transplant into something with a lot of perlite to hold moisture (also won't get nasty like wet dirt not held by roots)...

Hi All,
Thank you very much for taking a few moments to help a brother out...

the strain is Maroc x Afghani and O*Thai x Haze x Skunk #1 ...they have n=been blooming for about 5 weeks...

the plants are in a light paper thin almost planter..if i could upload photos I would shoot you some pics...guess I am blocked or something...

so...the plants reached about 5.5 feet and I had to bend them over...that went on for awhile and the plants just looked to be kind of airy around the tops...not what i expected ....but....i figured just the way the plant is...

decided to fertilize a little...that really seemed to kick it in some...plants are starting to really come around...the overall health of the plants could not be much better...very vigorous and a perfect specemin of each strain (nirvana and sam the skunk man)..

the maroc is supposed to go 8 weeks but I am betting 10 and the O*Thai is reported to go three months or more...

anyway, all i did was cut off the bottom of the planter...with a pair of scissors...i did not disturb any roots..(may have nicked one or two) but i just set the pot on top of a new larger pot with fresh soil in it...kind of made an indention there and set it on top...before i did all of that i poured some root stimulant stuff in there...hopefully it would help if not no biggie...i always heard no root growth no top growth..

they are starting to bloom a lot better but it is nothing to do with the transplant yet...i think those girls ate up all the nutes in that promix..

I probably will continue feeding every other week and quit a couple weeks before they finish...

i also crossed them with some skunk #1, pollen chuck, early girl, big bud, michoacan, white widow, durban poison, haleys comet, and some alaskan blueberry...there is about 40 seeds on each plant but that aint much for these monsters...they were pollenated about a month ago and I am already getting mature seeds off..another couple weeks and there wont be any seeds left on them...

i will report in and let you know if it made any diff..

thanks again for your help everybody...see you around...

Hi,
Well I decided to post an update on the double potting during flowering...

i decided to lift one of the plants off the second pot...the roots had already grown down about 6-10 inches!

looks as if the roots do continue growing during flowering...the plants also look much better...

i think these strains use a lot of nutes so it definitely wont hurt I dont think...

anyway, i dont think it hurt anything...

thanks for all the great feedback..
