Double Closet stealth Budget Design

Hi this is just going to be a step by step guide in setting up 2 stealth closets in the same room for veg and flowering! i have broken this down into when you need to buy certain equipment and materials at different stages to spread the cost.

Starting up!

1st off you are going to need 2 closets (of course) bare in mind you are probably going to ruin them, well at least in the eyes of your landlord! Try to also bare in mind how many plants you intend to fit in there, how tall they will be and also the fact your fan, light and most probably carbon filter are also going to take up room!

2nd so to start preparing them ready for growing you need to remove the back off of each of them. Dont worry we are going to replace the back but just with something a lot easier to work with!

Off to your grow shop

Right now is the time to start spending cash! but lets try and keep it to a minimum this is on a budget right!

so on the shopping list for today:

4 meters of white black plastic for each cupboard: 8 meters £12ish

Budget staple gun: £5 (BnQ)

2 Roles of Material tape: £5

Scissors: Got em!

2 x 5m 4" ducting: £14

2 x 4" inline fan: £30

1x 4" Splitter

At this point it is worth a mention that i did not buy the materials for both in one go as i was skint! If you think about it you are not going to need the flowering room for at least a month so this can get pushed back!

Get cutting

Now you are going to line the inside of the closet with the white back plastic, try and create overlap on the doors to reduce light leaking. When stapling the plastic place small peices of tape first to avoid the plastic ripping. The door should look something like this:

For the back measure out the plastic but leave some over lap. Now attach the plastic to the back of the closet and staple well to ensure a tight seal. This is now your replacement for the back of the closet that we removed. Plastic is a lot easier to cut through than wood and also we can rip it off at the end and put the wood back on!.

Venting
To vent you want to exit the hot air from the top! so cut a small cross in the top corner and poke your ducting through.

Now seal it up with tape (you will use a lot of tape!) Do this to both including the inline fan at the top of the closet and then join them together with the splitter to exit up the chimney like so!

Finally you need to make an intake, due to the fact our closet will have lots of air gaps and we should be extracting more than enough air it doesn't need to be huge but a rule of thumb is to make it slightly bigger than the exit! ensure it is light proof by making it turn a corner!

Off to the shops again!

now we can buy the obvious additions of a light and a fan!

250w CFL + reflector: £50ish

400W HPS: £80ish

2 x Oscillating fans: £30

Soil and pots: £30ish

Hydrometer/thermometer: £10

PH test kit: £5

2 x Timers: £10

2x Hangers: £12

Plugging in

This is pretty self explanatory really, screw in the hooks and hang the light then cut another hole for the power cables to exit.

place your fan in a good position to agitate your plants when they begin vegging. With everything plugged in and timers set 12\12 flower and 16/8 veg you should be good to go! and in a month or so's time your closet should look like this!

the additional costs will come with purchasing nutrients and PH control etc but i hope this helps in terms of an idea for setting up!

finally hide all that ducting with a tv, books and pictures this is your front room after all!

Alone

Nothing for smell? In an apt building with a landlord and neighbors this could be a bad thing yes?

Yes Agreed! i am in the veg stage at the moment so it isn't kicking up too much of a stink but when i turn on the other closet at the end of the month i will be using a carbon filter. got to wait until pay day though :)

spice A .. u could make a stink box.. also.. as a backup.. or as a veg filter..

just make a box.. having the ducting going into the top of 1 side bottom of the other.. then using cardboard u make the insize of the box a zig zag from top to bottom a couple times so the air moves around inside the box instead going straight in an out.. then u can put ozone.. or air freshners in there.. we used like a box of dryer sheets stapled in there threw the zig zag. and by the time the air gets threw and to outside.. it smells good.. but we use this in the winter.. so we can use the heat coming from the bulbs at night.. without the house stinkin like trees..

That sounds like a plan! day by day the vegging stage is smelling more but i was trying to avoid the cost of buying 2 carbon filters, this sounds like a much cheaper option. At present venting up the chimney i have yet to smell anything from outside, sniffing like i have a perma cold cycling down the street!

I think this could be a good thread for anyone to contribute budget ideas, as it can be quite costly setting up at first. But not as costly as buying erb on the street and lining some dealers pocket hense the decision to start growing again!

also just a word of warning, i started this all after planting a bag seed in normal potting soil on my window and scuse the pun a light bulb appeared above my head. Potting soil though cheap and came to hand, burnt the plant in early veg. The sogouda, kali and S.A.G.E. are all in bio bizz all mix and have no nute burn like the bag seed. But hey at least it gave me a kick up the arse to get started.
