Don't Do This!

Hi,
Boy I nearly screwed up about 15 new plants. I was wondering what the problem was because there was no growth and the plants looks stunted and yellowing....

well after chewing on it for awhile I realized that I had used newspaper in the bottom of the pots...BIG MISTAKE!...the off gassing and the waterlogged paper was killing the plants..

rule #2 start off in small containers and transplant upto desired container to finish in:) . dont start off in desired container to finish in each spring i plant flowers outside i get a 15 count flat of 3x3x3 inch squares. this works perfectly to start off seedlings or fresh rooted clones then i transplant upto 2 liter soda bottle then 1 gal bag and flower or transplan 1 more time upto desired size. i do this so my rootmass grows evenly and fills each container before transplant, i average transplanting every 10-14 days. also startn off small workn into larger helps to prevent overwatering, if you add anything to your soil add perlite and desired ferts.

hope you were able to salvage them... get some 'messanger' at the h-store, its harpin protine, and it will rejuvinate the plants by stimulating there immune system, should be less then 20$ for 3 treatments and its a foliar, so use RO....

hi,
Thanks for the replies..yeah what a screw up! I put them all in party cups for now...as soon as the soil dires up I can repot all of them....for now they are living in party cups...some i could fix pretty easy and put them right back in the perm pot...

I live in a remote area and cant get ahold of anything right away, as soon as I can get to town I will look for that stuff..

how about some really weak schultz plant food solution for now?

Hopefully they will all come back! There is a lot of money tied up in them lil suckers!

They sat there and grew like that for two or three weeks!

Finally I knew something had to be done or they were surely doomed.

The gas from the newspaper smelled light H2S or something...it had to be fumigating the roots and some of them were growing into and on the waterlogged paper.

I am hoping they will come back completely in a week or two..

I started out with party cups then into 3 or 4 gallon pots....what is the best size to grow in for three months or so?

I use promix and well water...

thanks for all the help...everything else is doin fine..

I will post a follow up..

Personally, I start them in the same container I finish them in. 3 gal pots. Just remember...they go 2 weeks or more between waterings when young, and even then, water sparingly thereafter. I get nice colas almost as big as my hand. Transplanting shocks a plant. They don't get transplanted when grown from seed outdoors do they? Then why do it indoors?

i think re potting 3 times until 3 gal pot will give me more bud than you not shocking ur plants in 1x 3gal pot for 14 wks

Rule #1

I learn a hella lot more from misteakes and failures than successes sometimes.

Now,,, One would think that the older ya got to be -- the fewer misteakes - and this is true sometimes, however,,,, see rule #1
The older I get, the more I realize I have so much to still learn.
