Don't devote a large park of your grow to untested seeds!

Devoted a large part of my just harvested grow to some seeds I bred myself; 707 Truthband x Black Widow.

Thought it would be a great cross; turns out they were too sativa like and yielded low, just lots of little buds.

Great smell though, smelt like pineapple.

Just the yield was shit.

Admittedly I had a big spidermite problem through most of the grow, and the heat was high, usually 86 F, but still the yield was shit.

I had a few hundred of those seeds still left, but I just threw them away, I don't want seeds of something that doesn't meet the criteria.

So, folks, don't devote a large part of your grow to untested crosses, just do a couple first to test the seeds out, othewise you will end up like me, expecting a bumper harvest, and ending up way short of your expectations.

Next time instead of throwing them away, donate them to the server fund. Some people like smoking flavorful sativa and don't worry about paying the bills with growing.

How was the 707 Truthband??? I just popped some.

Lots of resin and a strong smell.

I only grew one, it was a freebie, so I don't know if there are other variations if you buy a whole pack.

They advertise it as mainly sativa, the one I had wasn't very sativa, but I think the seeds I made threw back to the sativa in it's history.

Did it have high yield and/or potency?

I donated it to someone else to smoke, so I don't know about potency or what type of high.

As for the yield, I flowered it when it was small so it was about two foot tall at harvest.
Just average yield, but I didn't grow it big enough to get a real good look at it's phenotype.

I have just germinated a couple of Black Widow x Afghani, a Couple of (Bubba's Gift x Black Widow) x Afghani, and a couple of (Bubba's Gift x Black Widow) x Critical Mass.

Will see if anything interesting pops up amongst those ones.

I like making all these crosses and seeing how they turn out; but this has taught me not to put all my eggs in one basket.

Dont be too hard on the genetics...running just about any plant at 86F with a bad case of mites is gonna be bad for the yield. I always think....coulda been tha one...

Thread title is kind of goofy, imo...

How many breeders are actually testing their seeds now a days? NOT MANY...

That makes it real difficult to heed your warning.

If you've got expectations from untested seed then it's implied that you know how to make proper parental selections. Otherwise your just shooting craps... You know... A roll of the dice!

as depthcharge implied, you cant really blame the genetics when your grow was infested with mites and undesirable temps, you could just as easily have said
'dont test your seeds by growing them at high temps during a mite infestation'

Ditto, the heat and bugs will effect a grow of even the best genetics.

On the other hand, I totally agree to not put all your eggs in an untested basket. I've been offered seed, I've seen people begging for seed that someone just made. Been there, done that, not worth the time, money (electric light) and effort. If I'm going to spend five months to grow out seed it will be from a good, established source. Sure, toss a few 'testers' in too. I don't mind paying even $10 a seed when I get what I'm expecting/want. Same with nutrients and medium. Don't cheap out.
