Dolomite / dolomitic lime - is this the right stuff?

I believe the stuff you have will work fine, but not as fast acting as in the powderized form. It might take a week or so until you notice any drop in PH, but it should be okay. I wouldn't go out and buy the other form when you already bought this type. Good luck and let us know how well she works.

Oh ya, I forgot to mention - I have been using DL for quite some time and find that if you mix 2 table spoons (a little more might be better) per gallon of mix should work great. With the type you have I would mix at least three. Just a suggestion - good luck!

Needs to be ground/powdered and not pelletized

sproutco: Is it really necessary to be ground/powered? Can I just crush it up myself?

What would happen if i used it as is in the form it's in now? Will it just not work as well or do I use more?

You can put it in a coffee grinder and presto, pulverized dolomite lime.

Just because it is pelletized, does not mean that the lime itself is coarse or fine. They use a binder to pelletize the stuff, the actual particles of lime may fine or coarse. The binder breaks down very rapidly, so using it in pelletized form doesn't mean anything after a couple of days, unless its very coarse to begin with, like cheestains.
