Does your local PD have a Facebook page?

I saw that my local police department has a Facebook page. They are putting peoples mugshots on it from anything from simple possession of marijuana to rape and murder. What do you think about it? It posts on their wall and photo section. People are leaving comments and judging them.. those photos remain on there permanently. People can tag the pictures..

I know 2 people that got busted smoking a joint and the pigs put their mugshots on their wall and photo's.. it's been there for over a year. I just don't see the point in them doing it on facebook..

If you put a pic of "accused OR guilty" leo / pig on your wall, wanna bet other pigs will come rooting around, lookin' for justice for their fellow cretin??

Where I live there are more than a handful of bad leo on paid suspension for one thing or another - stealing/selling drugs, dui, improper use of leo equipment, stalking, assault...

You know - leo stuff...

I doubt it's illegal. Arrests and convictions are a matter of public record. As others have mentioned, they publish police reports in newspapers all the time. I'm not sure how publishing in one medium is any different than any other.

Not that I think it's the right thing to do. Seems totally unnecessary and inappropriate to me, especially for minor crimes. And I would hope names and pictures are NOT posted unless there is a conviction.

Public record, yup - facebook appropriate, ummmmmmmm...

Lotsa shit you can't put on fb - a "commercial enterprise" (leo) using fb to post criminals name/face/details (private citizen) seems a tad prejudicial - unless fb allows citizen groups to publish same details about leo.

Tit for tat - quid pro quo - whats good for the pig is good for the lamb...

I'm not legally minded - not the brightest mind either - and i don't use fb, but I find this situation reeks of impropriety...

they are posting it before being proved innocent or guilty. They may remove it if proven innocent but it's still bullshit. It's a social networking site. Also, they don't always put every persons mugshot on their page. That is discrimination to me. They pick and choose. Just like classy said, if it was one of their own officers under investigation, they wouldn't be posting it. Lately, they've been putting the "occupy streets" protestors mugshots all over their page and they haven't even been convicted.

you want to know whats fucked up?
in the state of florida, most of the time when you get arrested, your mugshot and charges appear on http://florida.arrests.org/ its pretty fucked up. if you google your name, its usually the first site that comes up. now the kicker, there is a "separate" company that charges a few hundred dollars to get your named removed from that site and google search.
