does your dehumidifier exhaust heat?

I

irie-i

my temps were in the 90's (30's C) even with aircools and a/c. humididty lights on was 30's%, off 60-70's%. since the dehumidifier creates heat i thought id try just shutting it off. now temps stay in the mid to low 80's, and rh daytime high 50's% and nighttime 70's%. do any of y'all have dehumidifiers that dont blow hotair?

Well lets face it... A dehumidifier is a machine, i am sure it will create some heat...
It seems like you only have a humidity problem when lights are off...
Maybe just run the dehu at lights off?

What an brilliant statement... not.

You can lower the RH by simply increasing temps, no dehumidifier needed at all.

Get a proper dehumidifier or go without any and increase the temps, that simple.

Well then...
Hows about we explain how a dehumidifier works.....
http://science.howstuffworks.com/question76.htm
Now that explains why the dehumidifier is pumping out heat..
So if your dehu is pumping air back into the room at the temperature it started at, and because it is an electrical machine with motors, and a condensor it is going to produce some heat. Therefore increasing the temperature in the room, making it slowly but surely start pumping out hotter air...
Brilliant enough for you mace?

1st off...irie-i...I hope you got that drain for your new AC handled! You should start a thread man...

I agree... Dehumidifiers put off heat...

I do what ROOKIE suggested (great tip man)....I also run central air (cause I hate being hot too lol)...which lowers RH throughout the property...

Ventilation is crucial...some units don't have self-evaporating condensing coils (so some have to shut down frequently)...and there are varying efficiency ratings...the air has to be mixed well....I found with my Sears model...that unless air is mixed...the humidistat, within the unit, reads intake ....so the unit will dry out the air in it's area...then shut down...the ones with no preset fucnction are worse cause they will just keep running (whether effectively dehumidifying or not) and I'll have RH "pockets"....keep the air mixed well....make sure they have 12" in front and back of the unit also...

If the heat at "lights off" bothers you...Keep the AC running also as it will lower RH...my portable AC instructions say don't run the dehumidifier function (be good to have all the firepower available lol) for more than 1 hour...your portable AC may be diff....but AC's lower RH in the way they work....which would contradict conventional wisdom ( i.e. lower temps mean higher RH)

well, im waiting to figure out what to do about this whole a/c~dehumidifier debacle. in the meantime i am watching the rez in the a/c very carefully, as part of my routine, it just didnt collect ANY water for a week so i kinda thought that it just wouldnt. as far as the thread goes, i start threads about this stuff all the time, search sealed room before i discovered icmag and since and youll see tons more now..almost all the boards lack info, now the MOST is here at icmag, thanks to all you fine and smart folks (and no thanks to the smart-asses!)

it seems that the air coming off the dehumidifier is even hotter than the room air. the air in my room is mixed very well, i have several fans.it makes a big difference to have it off for temps. but when lights off the RH is climbing into the high 70's. maybe i will put it on a timer, it's plumbed to drain too so i could just "T" in the a/c!
