Does Size Matter?

My question: When I'm getting activated carbon should I be going for a large or small granual? Is there an optimal size? Anyone with a little experience please offer an opinion, thanks.

I like the smaller size as it provides more surface area presented to the air being drawn or pushed through the filter thus providing more contamination removal
