Does hydroton ever go bad?

was just wonderng if anyone knows if the stuff goes bad after any length of time...i know to clean in between crops, etc...but does after a year or two with the same hydroton effect the uptake of nutes or make ph flucuate... :chin:

As long as it's clean it's good to go. They're just baked clay, so there's really nothing to go bad in em.

they do eventually corrode away..they get smaller and smaller until there not anymore...

thats plausible, but I think this would take many many many years of usage. I always replace mine once in a while because I just get tired of cleaning them over and over (I boil them). although pour some soap in a bowl with some clean hydroton, and you've got yourself a good hand cleaner and it will exfoliate your skin comes out nice and smooth.

well it takes about 3 years for them to be half the size they were in my water farms

that's about where i'm at now (1/2 the original size)...time for another 100lb. bag of hydroton i guess...thanks for the help people...stay safe
