That is basically the question. Have in mason jars, and bottom is much lighter color than the top.

It doesnt smell like mold does it?
Im no expert...but if I had butter in the freezer 6 months, and it was always frozen, if it looked and smelled ok I'd slam it, you can always reboil it too

That looks kinda sketch, but if theres no mold on it, maybe reboil...hopefully someone else will give you a better answer I dont want you to get botulism bro :(

Smells normal. Do you have any tips for squeezing the butter out of the cannabis? I f-ed my wrist up last time trying to squeeze out.

I have about 5 large ziplocs full of old bud not worth smoking, would like to process. Have thought about cooking with it, without making into butter, although heard it will taste like crap.

I am not worried about that. The heat will kill anything. Wondering if it will be useless, or not work properly for making cookies.

Im sure its still psychoactive.

I use a strainer for my cannabutter it has metal prongs that hold it up on the edge of a pot. I find a light press is enough to get it all out without mashing it thru

If I were you I would get a cup or two of hot water and stir it in the butter.
Then pour the butter water mixture in a flat pan and put in the fridge for an hour.
Pour off the water and I think you will have a more uniform color.

It looks like there may be some chlorophyll in there.

Is it decarbed already?

I have used cannabutter that was prolly frozen just as long.

What is needed to decarb?? Have to find the procedure I used. I also have 2 pints, so need to make a crap load of cookies.

The way I do it, all you need is a saucepan and a way to monitor the temperature.

I use an infra-temp thingy.

After you drain off the water, just cook it on a low setting until it stops bubbling rapidly.

I try to go up to 239 f for like 10-15 min, stirring the whole time.

Sounds like the nasty water and vegetative matter need to be separated out. Re-melt it, and pour it while hot through a clean cotton cloth to remove all sediment and green matter. Next let it cool and then refrigerate to solidify the oil in the top layer. The lower water layer can be poured away before it freezes, leaving the oil layer tasting much better, and ready to be refrozen. Re-melt and repeat for even more purification and nasty taste eradication.

I have some canna coconut oil that I have kept frozen for nearly 6 months now, in ice trays, so that it solidifies in convenient cubes. To make cookies, I just tap out a couple of cubes, and return the rest to the freezer. I see no sign of rancidity thus far, and more than likely this oil will store frozen for years with no loss of potency, and zero mold.

One of the stickies in this forum taught me all I am repeating here. It works, and the final product tastes only of coconut oil.

I’ve got some in the freezer from a while ago, I probably should check it out. I think it depends on the freezer and the packaging. I wrap mine in wax paper in measured portions and then vac seal it with a food saver. I’ve had steaks for years that I vac sealed and froze and when I finally got around to eating them it's like they were bought yesterday.

With the squeezin’s, depending on how much you have…try a potato ricer lined with a few layers of cheesecloth.

Yes

I had a big tub that I'd made using 10oz of bud, with the seal untouched it was garbage in 9 months

If yours is OK I'd use it immediately

Bush Doc did you keep the oil frozen solid the whole time, or was it just sitting in the fridge all that time, solid but not freezer-cold. Inquiring minds want to know.

My coconut canna oil that has been kept frozen from months still smells just as fresh as it did the day I made it, and still makes edibles that have a noticeably sedative effect, just as it did when it was freshly made.

I sure would like to hear a few more opinions here about the shelf-life of frozen canna oil.

I think the dairy in butter may make a difference.

Frozen salted butter will generally keep longer (up to 9 months for best quality) than unsalted butter (5-6 months for best quality).

Shishkaboy I think you have hit on an important difference between canna butter, and canna coconut oil, which is that the oil may have a much longer shelf life than the butter.

I hope a few other oil makers and butter makers chime in to give some substance to my theory about the oil lasting far longer than the butter, when frozen.

Coconut oil has selective antibacterial properties, like cannabis, properly filtered I imagine it would last longer how long I am unsure. You will know when coco oil is rancid. Its gross.
