does anyone "leaf" big live leaves?

so yall w relatively large outdoor plants, full sun opportunities,

do you go through and de leaf the shaders?
regularly?
or like skirting
do you go in and clear in batches?
if you do,
at what stage do you tend to really open up the flowers?

For me one of my main motivations when defoliating is getting rid of warm shady spots that bugs, larvae and eggs seem to thrive in. Getting rid of bug breeding and feeding grounds is hugely important in maintaining quality and quantity.

I tend to avoid defoliation at all seriously until at least 2nd-3rd week of flowering. I want to give the plant the opportunity to build as much mass as physically possible.
