Does a plan have to be "vigorous" to be a "keeper"? How soon do you cull?

So,

As I start sprouting my garden,

I realize how important selection is.

I'm curious,

How soon do you guys make your selections?

As Dj Short says, "It's all about effect"…

I mean, especially with expensive seeds, you might want to finish out each seed anyway..unless plant count/space/light is an issue..

But,

Is anyone pulling slow seedling?

I get pulling slow or weak veggers…

But, for me, flavor has SOOO much to do with my love for cannabis.

I'm not sure I would want to keep a plant that I didn't love the terpene palate of…

And I'm not sure I would want to keep a plant that grew like shit either…

So…

Where do YOU make the cut?

Only the strong survive.... no time for week plants... for a seedling to make the cut as a keeper all boxes must be checked. .... vigor taste smell high etc. ... as soon as im not happy with a plant it goes.... but whenever i pop beans i pop a bunch to start and weed through them as i go only keeping the ones i like.... it a numbers thing.... if i were to have less to start id most likely have a different approach n let some go all the way regardless
Who knows what im missing out on but i guarantee im not gonna have a pita plant

People don't rave of the health of most of the blueberry progeny line, do they? 1 in 100,00? I dunno. Haven't grown it, yet. That's not fair of me :D But even at that, you gentleman all know about them 1 in a Million girls ;)

You probably do have a point.

So.

WTF is true breeding cannabis and where can we find some?!

I've got some reseach to do :)

I tend to keep the runts, they might not give ya a massive yield but sometimes the bud they produce is awesome to smoke. I grew some prisoner of war or p.o.w 33 as it's known. The small runt plant was finnished first and I got just shy of an oz of some powerful potent bud. I had a mate come over for a smoke with me,the next morning he text to tell me he still felt groggy lol. Also I kept a runt of kandy kush and that produced the only purple pinkish bud out of the whole pack. Keep ya runts cos they might suprise you.

It's up to you what you personally decide is a keeper.

Probably the best answer, for each and everyone of us. Nice…

Nice experience. Thanks! Also heard these thoughts reflected by a long time grower...

I remember one runt from a Jack H., SSHaze cross that I didn't take a cutting from. It was so small and had crinkly leaves, just bone ugly plant. It also had the most memorable high and an absolutely wonderful taste. I would have gladly have put up with all the bad traits and planted 50 cuttings of just this plant. It might have been the basis for some breeding if I had saved it. My point is, you just never know till you smoke some what you might be culling.

vigor is desirable but i would prefer a great smoking plant with low vigor to a vigorous plant that smokes like rope ;)

veg rate can also be improved on subsequent grows by tweaking your grow method.

If first time growing the strain grow every seed to term. Then see what is what. I love mutants some of the most interesting highs and flavors come from the slow little girl in the corner.

I'm with the keep the runt school of thought the ugly duckling usually has some surprises to be seen

Got a mutation now I'm real interested in

Its got 2 naturaly yellow leaves out of 5 ....

Culling anything before smoking it is not very smart, because you never know how the finished ganja is gonna be.

(and im pretty sure some of the "elites" were the so called runts in someones growroom)
