Do Your Parents Smoke?

I could do with some advice ppl.

I'm at a stage where my parents are now retired, getting a bit bored, getting far too stressed about things and sometimes don't seem to be enjoying life. They are pretty anti-drugs, but I know that if they smoked weed they'd be happier in their retirement.

Has anyone here introduced their parents to cannabis? Any tips??

Old folks do not like new things. To bring this up, might make them very uncomfortable. If they talk about you and your use, that is a start. I talk to my Dad [over 75] about the farming aspect of this gig, and the parallels to all of the food processing we did on the farm growing up. I think he was suprised that most of the stuff I do, is the same stuff he taught me as a boy, which he no longer remembers. Go very slowly, think in terms of a two year timeframe of education, and wait till they ask about it, that is a sign of movement in the right direction. And you should look at the possibility that it would not be a good thing for them, and I am sure you want what is right, for them.

My parens smoke, and are the ones who introduced me to cannabis. I am very grateful it came into my life thru them, as they taught me a very healthy respect for it, and a mature view of its uses.

If you think yer folks would be happier stoned, try approaching it from another angle than smoking. Conservative old folks will always see a joint or a bong hit as "dirty hippy druggie stuff".......but might be much more accepting of cannabis in another, less stigmatized form, like edibles. I have found with Cannabrex that the form the cannabis makes makes huge difference. We have lots of Cannabrex users who would never consider smoking up getting the benefits of cannabis in edible form.

Try brownies, or cookies, or baklava, or anything else sweet and yummy. Let me know if you need any recipes.

I'm glad I happened upon this thread, as the link below is somewhat similar. It's this crazy children's book about pot! I read the first few pages online, and I actually think it's pretty good. Check it out if you want...or not...it's up to you. Either way, it's pretty interesting.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add, yeah, my parent's smoke. My mom used to grow it way back in the day in Germany, and my stepdad is more hush hush about it, but I know he smokes. (He did actually smoke a roach with me in the backyard of our old house...that was surreal.)

Thanks ppl -

I had a look at the childrens book - interesting idea, though might be considered patronising if i offered it to my dad.

I've got lots of literature on the science and facts of cannabis, including the Reefer Madness book by the Fast Food Nation author. Leaving those books might be a good way to slowly introduce him to the facts and maybe peak his curiousity.

And you're right - it needs to be handled carefully and with a slow build-up of steady fact-based info. Maybe next year he'll be suitably open to the idea of trying some in a cookie. I won't even mention the smoking because that has negative connotations.

I'd love to have a joint with my folks some time. I hate being made the villain by a stupid, indefensible law.

My parents are from the drinking generation, where drugs were not even known about.

My mom even baby sat a plant for one of her neighbors one time and didn't even know what it was. Just kept watering it and setting it out in the sun every morning.

Anywhoooo, I tried to talk them into trying it, really for my father who is in the mid stages of Alzheimer's, but they(my mom) really bought into the reefer madness movement and are convinced that they(my mom) will die or become these horrible deviant people. Just no convincing them(her).

I'm almost to the point of sneaking my father a batch of cookies, but I'm just not convinced it will work out in real life as well as it does in my head.

My father had to go through cancer treatment a few years back. I was a little concerned about the harsh chemo drugs he had to be on. I had offered my services if he so required, I was kind of shocked that he was actually open to the idea. He did not require any stash, but he at least thought about it.
My mother on the other hand is still shocked that I am able to smoke pot and have a beer without throwing up.

My dad is against smoking anything, and he keeps telling me how he might like it to much, or it's addicting (that i'm addicted)(whats wrong with being addicted to your medicine to feel better) :) hmm, one of these days i'm guna get him to try some ganja treats.

My old man still tokes, hell he brought me a 1/4 of some local clone only strain he called Whip just for having me watch over his house while he goes out of town for 3 days today. The first time I smoked bud when I was a shorty, it was courtesy of a joint roach he accidently left where his 11 year old soon could reach it. Nine years later, he tokes with me now.

Have you ever tried retirement.. on weed?!

Haha here is what you do. Mail them a care package of quality buds with the return address being that of the nearest AARP office, to make sure they open it.

You should be able to tell whether or not they went for it.

More than likely if your parents are anti-drug then you aren't getting them to do a damn thing lol. They're too stubborn, but my mom smokes. Lucky for me :p.

My pops has been smoking since he was 15 or so... he's in his late 40s now. My mom used to, but stopped when she had kids.

I actually was going through some old boxes and found some pics of my dad's grow circa 1977 or so. He was kneeling down in between a few plants with a big cheesy grin on his face. I still have them, although i haven't told him that yet. He's cool though, me and nycdfan have puffed with him on several occasions :D

When I was growing up, my mom told me the story of the "first time she smoked pot" (which she tried to sell to me as the ONLY time she did, but dad said otherwise, hehe) when she was in high school and skipped school with her friends to smoke and how she ended up getting super paranoid about her parents finding out and peed in her pants. :biglaugh: I don't know if she was making that up to try to deter me from smoking, or if it was really true.. but i thought it was funny.
