Earlier I was listening to a great Douglas Stanhope bit regarding people complaining about Mexicans living here who can't speak English. He offered an effective solution: don't talk to them. He joked that he actually times when he'll check his mail as to avoid his neighbors he hates people so much, and that nobody in this country talks to strangers anyway.
I am like this too. I don't talk to anyone, and I don't feel I'm missing out on much. It's not a philosophy that I've measured or anything. It's just that in the moment I rarely if ever find myself with an urge to learn what is on the mind of the person next to me. Indeed, I've taken every reasonable measure possible to avoid small talk in my life: I bank online, I shop(mostly)online, and so on.
Are you like this? Do you talk to your neighbors, or strangers? Do you head to the bar to drink to hang with strangers or do you just stay home?
