i got a room 16x30 do you think i need to run vent from the outside supplying fresh air or do you think co2 tanks would be suffiecient

Outside as in outside the room but still in the house or outside as in outdoors?

I don't use CO2, but my negative air preasure air is air from outside the room and have always had decent growth. If anything I would guess it has a higher concentration of CO2 then then be coming in from outdoors air.

If you have the ability to bring in fresh air from outside it might be of a benefit if you want to drop your temps to see if you can bring out interesting coloring in a strain. (if your outside air is much lower temp)

I have another vent on a wall that has air that is normally 20 degrees cooler then inside the room that I occasionally open to see if I can bring any color out on plants, have had some plants purple up from it being at like 60-62 F on lights off.

Yes, yes, yes... You want to imitate the outdoors in perfect conditions as much as possible. You want the best light, air, water, soil, and etc. Nothing beats fresh air. If you can afford to do so, do it. I can show you problems where if you don't bring fresh air will cause: Powdery Mildew for 1. Unhappy Plants for 2. And that's all you need.

Happy Growing...

Well speaking from someone that does not bring in "fresh" air from outside, I have never had mildew or mold for that matter.

If anything I would think you would have a greater chance of catching flying mold spores if you did bring in "fresh" outside air.

I think air exchange is the key, don't let your plants sit in stale non exchanged air. The air my plants get has been filtered to some degree and has any CO2 that is released in my home in it.

Then again if you have a house full of other house plants, that could bring other things into your room if you exchange air with your house.

cant stresss fresh air enough.
even if ya got to open some windows direct that air to the grow site.
artificial co2s a great idea but can be unpracticle for many growers.

CO2 is CO2 form what I understand.

Is there something I am missing that a Plant needs other then CO2, water, and sunlight? (Oxygen for the roots also I suppose)

I wish when people would answer why it should be xxx they explain why. I like to learn..

"Where indoor concentrations are elevated (compared to the outside air) the source is usually the building's occupants. People exhale carbon dioxide—the average adult's breath contains about 35,000 to 50,000 ppm of CO2 (100 times higher than outdoor air)"

From:http://www.wapa.gov/es/pubs/techbrf/co2.htm

If the quote above is correct, inside air (filtered) in my opinion would still be better for a grow room. Obviously this would not be true if it was a house that had bad air, Smoke, Other house plants that could spread mold spores, etc.. It would have a higher concentration of CO2 then outside air, exp if you have several people living in the space.

Can someone please explain WHY they believe outside air to be supperior to a plant then good inside air that has been processed by humans?

I have NEVER had mold on any plant and have had pretty high humidity.

But then again our filtering includes electronic air filtering, and UV light. So my air is "screened" and then has CO2 added to it by the people living with me.

Doesnt mold need to start from a spore?

chimei i'm with you and i think the answer is that there's a bunch a hippies hangin out here who think natural is always better...in a sealed environment with c02 injection they are safe (the plants....not the hippies) from outside spores and pests (as you said) and it allows for higher levels of c02...the only reason you would MAYBE need to bring in fresh air is to occasionally cool your room or lights quickly if you can't set up a decent exhaust....every time you're bringing in that "fresh" air you're bringing foreign elements into a controlled environment which just plain makes me nervous. you're plants will love you for the pure c02.
