Do you consider yourself a dissident?

No, but others see me as such. As to authority, I dont chalenge it, I question where its source of power comes from, and the truth is normally from my acceptance of it. Therefore I choose who I give that authority to carefully.

taken from wikipedia: "A dissident, broadly defined, is a person who actively opposes an established opinion, policy, or structure. When the term is used though is may refer to a number of types of dissidents, including political, social, and militant dissidents."

"Drug War dissidents advocate for less punishment under the current Prohibition and may include opposers to the prohibition itself. (see Legalization) These people could be and have been prosecuted in many countries for the sole expression of their point of view, under the United Nations Convention on Psychotropic Substances of 1988."

i am a dissident.

nope...not in this case.

It's my right....my duty, really......as a free human being to rebel against unjust laws.

I'm only a dissident in that I don't believe I should have to be a zombie for the corporate cock-suckers who get rich while I piss away my entire life, only to reitre when I'm old...and die a few years later.

FUCK THAT

When I look around and see all these people just walking the straight line...no thanks man...you can keep your RFID chip implant any day FUCK THAT SHIT!

That's why the government wants to supress marijuana and the people who use it.....we have our own ideas and don't want to be just another number in the cubicle 24/7/the rest of our fuckin' lives.

We're non-conformists and they hate us because we make it harder for them to make more money...

This is what I say to them :jerkit:

Personally I feel it's a matter of perspective.

I'm inclined to say that the government is in dissent of the Constitution since it is not allowing the citizens their right to grow a F*n plant, and furthermore, prosecuting.

The other side's perspective would be that we are in dissent of their law.

So as I said, I think dissent is perspective based.

I guess I could say to myself that I am a dissident of their law but I think that would imply I've granted subjegation of myself to their authority in this regard.

Then again if I truly do NOT feel I am dissenting, then why do I not do my growing openly and not try to hide it.

And there you have it, I have confused myself and gone cross-eyed. :gaga:

I don't smoke to be contrary - but I will continue to smoke / grow, against all laws to the contrary. I am also very upfront about my smoking to pretty much everyone. I've marched and protested - been seen on nationwide tv - and people know me for it.

I dissent - but it isn't my original intent.

Just a happy by-product.

I cannot be a dissident, as my right to oppose an oppressive government is guaranteed, wait, actually encouraged, by the authors of our Constitution.

The very nature of the question goes against all I believe. I have given the government no power to control my private activities, only agreed with certain provisions.

I think that anyone who opposes government authority, structure, or policy is a dissident to some degree, just as the technical definition states. But that opposition, as a role of some sort, is not the end-all in itself, as a goal of contrarianism or something.

When the internal 'knowing' we possess tells us that we control our own lives and bodies, and that 'knowledge' smacks straight into oppressive policy that defies natural law concerning ownership of the self, then the policy itself casts persons into the role of 'dissident.' Simply because the 'dissidents' in question have continued to take charge over those aspects of their lives that have always been theirs' to control, but involving actions which now contradict (corrupt) policy.

As a person who was supposedly born free, my mind, body, soul, and original thoughts are mine alone. No lien holders; government or otherwise. When someone in a position of (corrupted) authority insists on taking charge of those things that are mine alone, without my consent, then I am going to act -consciously- as a dissident.

Not because of boredom or contrarianism, but because I despise bullies, tyrants, and thieves.

And that's what such policies and force in government represent when they tread on persons' rights to be left alone to govern their own lives; they transform otherwise legitimate government into a force of mere bullies, tyrants, and thieves. All the while eating and drinking, and bolstering their (illegitimate) authority from the incomes of those they persecute.

(To those authoritarians I say, "May you die painfully, and -soon-!!")

Cannabis isn't just a plant that gets folks stoned, provides some amount of introspection, potentially offers fiber and food, and causes munchies; it's also a modern symbol of tyrants' of all stripes, in their continued and ancient willingness to persecute others with less power, in the name of ignorance and unnecessary social controls.

That's what cannabis represents to me, beyond its other more obvious benefits; that we're still living with witch-burners in positions of power.

Yes, I am a dissident.

"We have a moral obligation to defy unjust laws." (Stated slightly differently by both Albert Einstein and Martin Luther King, Jr.)

Great post Moose...exactly how I feel.

But tell me this IC Maggers......the admin here tells us not to question them, period. It is a bannable offense to question admin....not to be disrespectful mind you....just bannable to even question them? How can we, as dissendents and "question authority" type people deal with that?

Hope I don't get banned for posting this....we'll see huh?

EDIT: To the thread starter, sorry if get your thread deleted for my post. I seem to be a thread killer lately. There have been 4 or 5 here lately that after I post it's gone. POOF!

Because we, as dissidents, understand that enforcing our will on others is wrong.

This is the admins property, their house, if you will.

If someone in my house came in and started spouting shit that pissed me off, I'd kick them out too. I wouldn't take that right away from the admins here.

Matter of fact, I invited a group of friends over for my birthday, was gonna cook out some big fat steaks with my special marinade (that takes all day) and do it up right. Then a some expressed that they couldn't abide by cannabis use.

They were quickly informed that it wasn't optional and that they were no longer invited. My house, my rules.

My b-day plans now involve an quiet, expensive (all the money that was gonna go to the cook out) between my wife and I. No regrets, either. If they don't accept me in whole, then they're not allowed to accept me in part.
