really depends on the phenotype you end up with.. lol.. but ya most strains do great when topped.. especially really early. like 5-6 nodes after u pop seeds.. top .. then wait till those have a few 2 nodes.. and top those again.. and continue until you fillup your room or tent lol.. and flip to flower.. and you have a nice amount of Colas. instead of a few colas and a bunch of side shit

i don't know if i can keep on topping the chill om because the breeder description said not to veg past 4 weeks, but i might make a bush out of the purple bud though

most strains/phenos will benefit from being topped, especially plants from seed which tend to be more reluctant to break the apical dominance of their primary growing tip.

the only time when i would be hesitant to top a plant would be if it seems very slow growing, and then it's probably better to bend the top over to encourage it to branch out.

another thing to remember about topping is that it can slow root growth whilst the plant grows its new tops - not necessarily a big problem but in an ideal world it is best not to top and up-pot at the same time. i like to top a week or so after an up-pot when growth is in full swing ;)

one last thing, if your plant is vegged up and you are trying to buy some time until your flowering cycle finishes and you have room to flip them - topping will buy you that time as it stalls the plant for a few days, reverse to this, if you want your plant to veg up asap then bend the top over rather than cutting it off. topping 'costs' you about a week on average, but usually gives you a better plant and a higher yield in the end (obviously depending on your style of grow)

A couple of years back, I grew two identically sized/matched clones from a BOG sour bubble plant.

I topped one and let the other grow a main stem unmolested.

I did a long veg on both (identical amount of time) and flowered them out.

It was pretty close, but the untopped plant out yielded the topped plant.

Perhaps if I gave the topped plant extra veg time the results may have been different. But that, and other less structured observations, led me to top less often.

Topping is great for small growrooms. the plants spreads its upwards growth over 2 tops instead of 1. It will grow less tall, but still yield pretty good
