Do they work?

yes.

Are they worth the money?

sometimes.

Will they turn you into a grow room GOD?

probably not.

When getting started and learning - std bulbs are a good choice. Once ya get to harvest regularly and start dialing in - then I'd invest.

If your not on a budget - hell yeah get em!

I usually pay about $75 for a 1000W - well I gotta buy a few to get that price.

Like I said I gotta buy between 4 and 6 to get the good price, and it's not like they go bad sitting in the box.

Wow, thanks for breakin' that down for me.

I meant, why would one choose a sub-standard level bulb? Wouldn't you always want the best = EN?

I doubt a novice grower just starting up, would be able to notice much if any improvment.

Plus getting started - there is always a shopping list for the garden.

1000W HPS bulbs start to loose efficency and output after 12-18 months and shoulld be replaced anyway - so getting started - I say save the $25-$50 and get a good pH pen.

When your installing new ballasts, air cooled hoods and an air conditioner - might as well blow the coin and buy a 6-pack of hortilux bulbs. I already got the pH tester.

It's kinda like racing cars - they tend to start ya in a Fiat before ya get the Ferrari

Unfortunately - in my experiences - the Fiat winds up costing almost as much as a Ferrari.

K+

You have mastered the lesson about the poor get poor-er GrassSmoker: It cost more to buy in small quantities or on time which most poor people have to.

And now GrassSmoker why do we put up with it?

LOL Just Kidding..

I began using the Hortilux-Blue a few months back.

Well worth the money, IMHO

In Veg or all round if you don't mind.

Ooooohhh Shit I just looked.. I have been out of the loop for a while and only $75 anyone need a slightly used 1k HPS eye? LOL

Where they are going to get me is on the MH > HPS conversion bulbs.

I'm thinking in my three tubes, the center would be the superblue and the two outside 22o hps's or do you think MH would be just fine for side flower light ?

Hiya Jack!

MH for vegging and the HPS/Hortilux for flower is the "ideal" method.

It has to do with the color of the light, somehow HPS is most like autum. And I think HPS promotes more compact growth and sorta reduces stretch where as MH dosen't.

There are some growers that use MH from start to finish and some that use HPS all the way - both can work.

When I started this hobby - I bought a switchable ballast that will run MH or HPS. I think it was about $300 for the 1000W with both bulbs. (bulbs were std type not enhanced)

I know the make convertable bulbs, but seldom hear of any one using them. Ya think there is a reason? Check back when you get the price, maybe that's it.

Just saw your update - if you can keep the temps in line - run all 3 together!

The 1k does just fine most of the time - it rhymes..
Really it's 16ftsq with reflective walls.. Short tight inter nodes.. Large foliage.

But in the end when the Grass is High on the center light the outsides need a boost..

I could have increased quality ( not quantity ) with these side lights, last grow.

Quality is Job One... Wait someone has taken that slogan..

"Quality Gets you higher" (tm) Okay that's mine...

Also I can grow a cover crop with just the MH during non-medical grow times..

I may do some exotic mix this time.. last time was first bird seed and then alfalfa..

And to think this may be the last medical grow in this wonderful unit.. I aim to build a better one <sigh>

I'm finishing the "details" in a new room.

Added a second 1000 and dual hoods, for flower and another 1000W of floro and Mh combined. moved all into same room - upgraded the electrical got a honkin scrubber -

we b jammin.

had almost everything running today and - so far it looks sweet. I'm just learning a lil about hydro and rockwool - and so far I have 38 of 38 and they all look really nice.

Now if they would just grow faster.

My new "hydro" set up is a home made tray thing. It has a 12 gallon resavoir and can hold up to 10, 6-inch rockwool blocks.

A friend uses the same system under floro shop lights and does quite well actually,

I'm starting them under the floros, then 400 MH, then 2000 hortilux.

I've compleatly changed everything, pretty much, and I am doing the shake down now.

so far - I like what I see.
