Do Temps Effect The Intensity of Bulb??

My Brother brought this topic to my attention, I kind of blew it off because I was in the middle of building my Hood (See Sig:joint:) But it got me thinking a bit.

Anyone have any info on how temperature effects the performance of bulbs (specifically CFL's) ??

It has to effect the life expectancy and the Lumens they produce...but to what degree...??

Don't know about the other types of lighting but T5-HO's certainly are. They lose intensity if they are too cool.

I'm sure all types of bulbs are...Look at HPS and MH, its highest output is when?? several mins after they warm up...

Still wondering to what degree.

I doubt it, especially those screw in CFL's, I would keep them as cool as reasonably possible. Pretty sure they will last longer that way and produce the same lumens.

No fancy Graphs or Colored Pie Charts to show me numbers that mean little to nothing to me??

That's why I use the 55w PL-L lamps.

It's basically a T5HO tube bent in half. It puts out maximum lumens when the surrounding air temp is only 75F though. Much better than the 90F+ for a regular T5HO. :D

Affect intensity? Don't know for sure, I would say it's possible. I do know that it can cause a slight shift in the color, though (...not necessarily that it will, but, that it can). Like, say, a bit more yellow for a 3k Kelvin light. I don't have any specifics, but I don't think they would be hard to find.

Namaste, mess
