i manage to cull most males in veg due to their height. males tent to grow taller and faster. but nothing is sure till they flower or show sex.

Thanks for the reply SML like to see some votes cuz Ive been growing a while now and have never heard of such a thing unless your familiar with the strain.Just to pull the taller plants seems like a guess to me.The point I'm hopping to make is dont kill your plants cuz the tall 1 is a male .Its not fact and in general is bad advice .Any new grower not sure should not take it to heart

i dont kill anything till it shows sex.but i do move the alleged males to the flower area first allowing more room in veg. i also dont transplant them to new containers unless i am wrong and they are females.doesnt happen very often tho

Ever seen a big female sativa, 12' high or more? I don't think size is an indicator of sex. It's just genetics.

Just because its a tall growing strain does not mean that the males are not going to be taller than females.Get what I'm saying.

and just because some males may grow taller, does not mean all males are taller. it varies from smaller, same height and taller. which means you cannot determin sex by plant height, you determine it by flowering and waiting for preflowers. you'd be pretty stupid to bin taller plants before sexing them.

Have grown out well over 200 of a particular seed batch under identical conditions and still would not feel confidant to go by height/growth rate to predict sex.

There is a tall and short pheno expression and a short male and tall female are very similar to the eye till nine nodes.

The tall males could be reliably selected out this way if you only wanted short pheno females and were familiar with the cross.

The strongest fastest tallest plant I ever saw in veg was a power skunk and turned out to be a female. I do the same thing others have said, I won't kill anything until I know for sure. Only the ladies get transplanted.

It is easy to sex most strains early if you have a good macro on your camera. Just look for pistils they show up surprisingly early.

Males tend to grow a little more vigorously in veg. and very early flower. Females catch up in early flower. It makes sense from a biological point of view. Males need to get their flowers up in the air and mature so they are ready as soon as the females mature. Arguably, female plant reproductive gear is more complex and therefore more resource and time intensive to produce than male gear.

Absolutly positivly not.

Ever seen a tall woman? Short man? canabis is the same. (or can be)

I used to think so. In the "before" daze.

One of my first packs of store bought beans was B-52 - a pretty tall strain to start with. Anyway - we started flowering and one plant went into super stretch - easily one of the tallest of the pack. I set it on the side and for some reason, missed tossing it for a couple more days - next time I grabbed it and checked - - it was a female - and the keeper of the pack. She produced for 4 years before I found a strain I liked better to replace her.

Usually - tallest are more prone to male but not always. ime
