Do small seeds mean indica genetics?

Is it possible to look at a seed and make an educated guess how indica or sativia it is based on its size?

I'm asking b/c I have some Bog and Sagarmatha mix and am curious if it is possible to pick out the small ones or big ones to get a more indica crop. I first noticed smaller seeds (vs the schwag I used to smoke) on my first order (top 44) with gypsy.

you cant tell by looking.

my sdv3 were small and white, they looked undeveloped and i wasnt happy when i got them. most sativa strain ive run to date

however they all germed and were the best herb ive ever had.. so.. looks arent everything, and you defintiely cant tell by looking..

Seeds come in all different sizes. I noticed some sativas have smaller seeds then an indica. Although that's not always the case. The biggest seeds I got come from Blueberry, Northernberry, and Sweet Tooth x Lightstorm. All strains are mostly indicas. The smallest seeds I got are my Indian x Ethiopian sativa. They are really small. I remember reading that seed size tells you if the plant has big or small calyxs.

well.. i wonder here!! the size of the caylex when the plant is finished can tell a lil bit about what size the seeds will be ,,,
i know alot of sativas have small caylex's and small seeds!! , now some blueberry seeds i have seen were big like the size of a swollen caylex..
now i have made some diesel seeds that were x with a dsdv2,, seeds were lil smaller
but the ones xed with a petrolia head stash , well they were big,, humm i think it is possible maybe to get a idea what the size caylex the plant can produce from looking at seeds maybe,, if you see one with small seeds proll sat dom ,, but huge seeds maybe indica dom!!
very good question!!

right on the money suns, i've noticed the same. the indicas always seem to have monsters, while the purer the sat the smaller the seed almost lol. have been a couple exceptions of course... seeds are fun to look at :p

I don't have much experience with sativa seeds, but my Arjan's haze#2 x NL5 haze had some of the biggest seeds I've ever seen it's a very sativa dom plant.

hmmm

I think what needs questioning is the whole sativa/indica business

the sativa/indica distinction (controversial as it is) can be traced back to Richard Evans Schultes, the Dutch ethnobotanist

in fact, when developing this distinction, he argued that indica can be identified by its small almost spherical seeds

and sativa by it's large, convex and elongated seeds

reality is that there are more countless exceptions to the rule

to cut a long story short, I reckon the three species one genus set-up is dubious

to accept it, you have to accept that cannabis defies one of the main defining features of a species, which is that it can't breed with other species

cannabis sativa can breed with indica and ruderalis

so is it a separate species?
I would say that looking at the history of trade etc. among cannabis using cultures would suggest otherwise

cheers, bong time

My malawi gold produce massive seed's and my haze produce real tiny seed's and are both 100% sativa so you can't tell by looking at seed's

yeh, the Malawi Gold I have seen (Afropips) has lovely big seeds, and likewise all of the hybrids of it I have seen

Malawi 99 has pretty large seeds

the mature Thai seeds I saw were fairly large

Congolese strains are supposed to have pretty small seeds

...

(anyone know where to get hold of good Thai and Congolese genetics ... I think I may just have to return to the doi again myself...)

 agree. the fattest pips I n I ever see were from hybrid afghan type indicas. the smallest from ibl landrace s.e. asian/african sativa

it's a question of 'survival factor' in relation to 'population density' in sub-species of ganja...

I'm with namkha here, the whole classification business itself needs some deep reconsidering. We have multiple systems for classifying sativa/indica and none of them are consistent, the whole setup needs to be re-examined by some very serious and dedicated people. Unfortunately, the current political climate makes dedicated, serious, public research very complicated. I remember seeing a very good thread not long ago about this very subject, and I really think we need some more serious discussions like it about our classification problems surrounding cannabis.
