do sealed controlled rooms still require venting?

if you have a totally sealed room with sealed air cooled hoods, co2 enrichment @1500 and an ac/dehumidfier...should you still occasionally draw fresh air in and remove old air, even though your environment is totally controlled and co2 enriched? thanks

There's really no need for it. As long as they're getting plenty of CO2 and air circulation within the room they'll be happy (air quality wise).

yeah, i just went through my first grow with a sealed room and all i can say is you need a dehumidifier or an a/c with a dehum option (seperate dehum better though!!!).. you wanna keep your humidity down cause venting would normally lower it.. co2 is what the plants need in the air and as long as you arn't introducing any toxins or anything into the air it should be fine.. you could set up an air ventialtion system incase you need to vent after a pyrityium bomb or something.. but make sure it sealed..

the plants love sealed rooms..even if you can only keep the co2 at like 900ish..

how large of an ac is needed for like 2kw and how cheap would a sufficient co2 setup run?

How big is ya box/room and what system r u running re:aircon/d.h

co2 can be made by adding sugar to yeast in a hooooooooooooooooooooooj tub with an injector valve kinda masks the smell too but a simple setup £150 and a controlled valve system can be bux
check the flea bay and look in welding equip too

i was wondering this as well, and I think someone hit the nail on the head w/ humidity being the only drawback. I'm thinking of sealing my box, and putting computer fans where my intake is now, and having them on a timer so they only vent at night. I could even use those dryer vents so the intake (or in this case outtake) holes don't let any co2 escape when the lights come on and the fans shut off.

I run a totally sealed room with AC's,dehumidifier and co2 enrichment.I never ever ventilate my room, theres no reason to at all.A dehumidifier during lights out is an absolute must though

If ya assume that everytime you open the door you let in the vacum amount equal to the size of your door Speed dependant then you r venting to a degree

awesome replies. so from what i understand, as long as there is an a/c and dehumidifier in the mix, then venting is unneccesary. i just thought maybe the air would get stale even with the addition of co2 and removal of humidity. but guess not

for a mid budget co2 system you can use a tank, regulator, digital timer, and offset your co2 and exhaust. you can calculate the co2 on time using this:

http://www.hydroponics.net/learn/co2_calculator.asp

for a not so budget controller, the c.a.p. ppm-2a with fuzzy logic is good, and green air has a new co2 meter called the sp-1, with their equivalent of 'fuzzy logic'

I thought the air would get stale as well. I dont know if any of you have actually grown this way, or are you just speaking based on your understanding of what the plant needs?

I'm using a sealed setup right now and CO2...(with AC and dehumidifier of course). The plants only need CO2 from the air and since it's being provided by a tank or burner there's no need to bring in "fresh" air. The plants produce plenty of O2 as a byproduct of photosynthesis to support healthy root systems as well.

The reason people vent rooms is to bring in more CO2 rich air (along with controlling temps/humidity) so if you're providing all of that for them, you don't need to vent...but it's definitely not ideal for cab/closet or smaller grows due to the space requirements of the AC/dehumidifier and CO2 setup.

CFH: 1
Grow room area: 240 cubic feet
Amount of CO2 required: 0.192 cubic feet
On time: 11.52 minutes

At this flow rate:
If you are using a 20 pound CO2 bottle with a regulator, it will last 174.8 hours.
If you have a CO2 Generator a 5 gallon propane tank will last 540 hours.

Wow i never realised how much more efficient a propane generator is!
i plan on just using a regulator/selenoid valve on a timer for lights on and do the calculations on how often that co2 need to be pumped in.
Anyone have any input on how fast plants use up the co2 ?

I've been growing in a sealed flower room for years now,no ventilation whatsoever.Actually I have a fart fan in the ceiling but never use it.You will need a dhumidifier during the dark hours for sure, unless you like the morning dew on your buds lol.

When you think about it,the oxygen is constantly being replenished by the growing plants,no need for outside air.
