In the 1960's, India adopted a new policy
towards agriculture, one based on chemical
fertilizers and pesticides.

This was the beginning of India's 'Green Revolution'


Chemical herbicides were also used as weapons of war.

During the Vietnam War, the U.S. military sprayed
some 12 million gallons of Agent Orange herbicide
over Vietnam.

At least 4.5 million Vietnamese,
and 2.5 million American veterans,
may have been exposed to the pesticide.
Although the spraying ended 50 years ago,
the dioxin from Agent Orange is still wreaking
havoc on three generations of victims.

From 1965 to 1969, Monsanto Company
was a wartime government contractor
who manufactured 'Agent Orange'
