do MH conversion bulbs burn hotter than standard MH

i have a mh conversion bulb in a 400w hps ballast but it seems like its really hot and i know that mh are supposed to run cooler than hps in general. its in a C something or other cabinet lol.

here is my setup. my aircooled hoods wont fit in my cab so it sucks lol. i think i will try and mount a cool tube if i can. for now the little guys are in a clone tray with two airstones with hydroton and water. its a temporary hydro setup until a spare closet is available where im setting up an ebb and flow table

hey BN, I would say MH burns warmer than HPS, by a slight margin, I don't think the MH conversion will be much different in heat/operation than a traditional MH bulb, for sure though you will need to aircool somehow, bc 400w in that Mills Pride cab is gonna be rather warm for the plants (I have a 250w in there with ~150cfm airflow total, with 63 of those going through the cooltube en passe). I have had great results with the DIY cooltube design posted by user 'lemon', takes some time to find the parts and think the design through but operates like any other $100+ prefab cooltube (which I could barely find any 4" versions anywhere)... good luck setting it all up should be a fun journey ;) I'll be retiring my cab any day now =/ peace

i dont even know how many cfm my can fan is but it does create good negative pressure even through the carbon filter. i have some home made cool tubes that i will be putting to use

A great thing about these C cabs is the way negative pressure pulls the doors closed if you have everything airtight =)~ great efficiency in withdrawing air, plus they are so tiny (~20cuft) that even 100cfm would be plenty of flow (I use a Panasonic exhaust fan/scrubber w 3x 4"PC fans), but of course a cooltube is essential for most any HID micro/closet/cab grow - sounds like you got ur bases covered dude, hope everything works out :)

i fucking love duct tape and zip ties!!

temps are staying at 84 but i put a box fan in the window behind the cab so i will get some cool air flow behind it to cool it down even more. it should be fine, its only getting cooler out. if you look in the very top left of the ballast/fan area i have a 70 cfm bathroom fan to exhaust the warmth from the ballast. those bitches get warm

with the box fan on high right behind the cab at night my temps got down to mid to high 60's lol. oops. i noticed it that same night though so i didnt freeze my seedlings. ive got it to where even if all the fans are off in the room it gets no hotter than 85 in the humidity dome and 84 ambient with the cooltube :)
