I'm in the first week of flower of my Reeferman Harmony and Med Man rks2 grow (See grow diary) and I'm wondering about all of the possible benefits of male plants. Of course we all know that males pollinate females and you don't want to leave the males in the room unless you are doing a seed run but I wonder if maybe we're missing out on what the females could be.
I've always read that the females, when pollinated, put their energy into making seeds and not as much resin is produced as would be the case if they weren't pollinated. I've done seed runs before and after harvesting seeds I've made water hash and also smoked some of the buds from seeded females. I had a notion that it would be fair or OK hash and bud but that it would be of a much lower quality than sensi.
Granted the amount of hash was greatly reduced but some of that reduction is attributed to all of the handling involved in harvesting seeds. Much to my surprise the quality produced was excellent and it had unique qualities to the effects that I hadn't experienced previously.
I'm sure there a many hormonal changes that take place in the plant when the females become pollinated and then produce seeds. I have no doubt that is also the reason the final product, at least in my limited experience with smoking seeded bud and hash, was unique. Could it all have been psychological because I had low expectations for seeded bud? That's entirely possible.
Anyone have any thoughts or want to relate their experience with seeded bud? If you know botany and can explain the changes a plant goes through when it is pollinated and produces seed that would be interesting for me to learn.
Is it simply the fact that the seeded plant is a more natural plant? By that I mean in nature the plants would normally be pollinated and the resin produced would be what you would normally find in nature.
