Do breeders flush their seedplants?

This is a question for any pro or amatuer breeders or closet hacks out there.

When growing plants specificaly for seed, and not for bud, do you continue using nutrients to the end?

Do you flush like normal, or do you give your plants less nutes than normal throughout the entire flowering?

Also, I've heard that over feeding a seedplant can result in a high number of twins (2 seedlings from 1 seed) and tri/quadfoliates (whorled phylotaxy).

Anyone know if there's any truth to this?

thanks for your help guys and gals.

Thanks jaws :) I'm leaning towards the same thing, because if I can save $ on nutes and have just as good results I'm happy.

I would call myself a closet hack right now, as I'm still learning and haven't realy begun to take any line in a certain direction. Simple crosses with no real goals but to see what happens.

Not meant to be derrogatory at all, slang for someone who is playing around and wouldn't quite call themselves a breeder yet.

So please, no one take it the wrong way.

I do , for sure - in fact to prevent a high mg content in the plants , as mg hardenes the shell of the seeds very strong up to the point that the tap cant get through it ,when planted -

I consider myself a gentleman farmer, and I think that puts me in the hack category as well. I will make seeds just to see what a cross will do, and sometimes throw whole batches away if they do not turn out to please me. I think most breeders let seed plants go longer if anything, so a flush does not hurt the production or quality of the smoke, and seeded bud can be fine smoke, different from the same strain unseeded. I flush everything, when I get lazy I just smoke a bud from the control [unflushed] plant from the crop of 0205, and I remember why I need to flush.

I think a lot of breeders produce seeds organically, so its not necessary to flush.
BTW interesting fact about the mg/ shell hardness. didnt know that one.

I flush em. The only difference is I let the seeded plants go a week to 10 days longer than sensi and I don't cut the Nitrogen as soon as I would for a flowering for bud plant.

Great info peeps, apreciate it. Great to get some confirmation from other seeders.

WWM, I have done the same thing with all my seed plants, let the N go a little longer into flower, altho I'd not sure it helps.

I'm curious as to whether the high PK is even needed once the plant is seeded. Does seed developement need high PK? You'd think you could get away with much reduced levels of flowering nutes, since flower production virtual stops once a plant is fully seeded.

I'm just trying to develop a good feeding regime for full on seedplants. Something basic and easy that can be premixed in a big batch and used for a few weeks at a time or the entire flowering period.

thanks again for the feedback folks, keep it coming.

Bumpity-bump-bump

I also have some more questions regarding working with seeded plants.

1)Can you speed up the maturation of seeds by altering the light schedule like going to 11 on 13 off?

2)Once a plant is seeded, can you not just finish the plants under a veg photoperiod?

The reason I ask this is because I need to go away and want to make sure all of my seeds are riper before then.

Also, I have had plants in veg pollinated and still have gotten healthy seeds from each pollinated calyx, altho I didn't take note of the maturation time.

I am still very curious about the PK question that I asked about in the above post. :chin:
