DIY Water Wand, cut that watering time down.

:xmasnut:Hey Guys! Happy New Year!!! Here is that water wand you wanted to see. Simple and easy to make I can water Large 5 Gallon pots and Small 5.5in sq pot easy by controlling the pressure with the ball valve. Takes only 15-20 seconds to water a 5.5 in sq pot. It comes out with a nice pressure so be carefull not to have it to high and drill holes in your soil. Make watering very easy, And ya I do run my TEA through and it never clogs, just let the TEA settle for 10 mins before using the wand.

The picture shows all that you need, and for the hose connections, those are actually 1/2inch hose connectors this can all be found in the outdoor irrigation department at your local big Hardware store. The entire unit was less then 50$. The pump and ball valve are the most expensive. This pump was 37$ and then the parts. It is a 45 GPH pump , quite strong, but SUPER quiet as it is a propeller type. On the spray end I used a shower head so i can change the angle an stuff but it is best just to put an end cap on it and drill a 1/4 inch hole pointing down. When watering with it move back and forth to cover the entire surface of the soil, perfect even watering. Oh ya, the length is 4ft and the hose is 6 ft.

There you go, put them to good use! This one is 4 yrs old, they last a very long time!

does the pump not get messed up when closing the ball valve? isn't the pressure ruin the pump?

no it is a propeller type pump, not a piston. no worries it will last you years!

^ oh ok, thanks. I guess I need to get a propeller type pump then!

I was thinking for someone to make me a "cut off switch" on a wand so when you push the handle down it turns on, and once you let go it turns the pump off, but I guess this will do

do you know if there are external propeller type pumps? as I was looking to get an external so I don't need the minimum water in the bottom, and with a external i was gonna rig the tubing to go right to the bottom of the bucket.....

or you could get a dramm watering wand with a squeeze lever and a breaker head for less than 20$ @ Ace Hardware. add a 3/4" threaded to 1/2" barbed adapter, a small pump, and a bit of tubing..... only thing you'll ever have to replace will be the tubing and pump.

i use to use a electric syphon with some extra hose duct taped to it...i alsy taped a bamboo stake to it for better control...got the syphon at home depot for like 25 bux,the rest of the stuff was laying around the house....urs is better for larger grows probably though...i had only like 20 plants total when i used that...it did work like a champ though, nice diy.

If you already have the wrong pump, like me, then you could also try what I am planning to do. I'm going to install a T valve, so that when the valve is shut "off" it will run into a secondary hose that feeds back into the water supply. I know it will require extra tubing, but its very similar to how automotive high pressure systems run so I think it should work ok.

Just my two cents! :xmasnut:

So I found a small pump that was impeller type, so I just copied ICC's wand... Pretty awesome and simple

Everything cost like 38 bucks. I only used the gas tank because I had it lying around.
