diy uc issue with grommets/uniseals

Hey now

I am building a UnderCurrent DWC system with square buckets and using PVC in lieu of tubing. I guess I'm using PVC because I figure it will last longer, less prone to breakage etc. I am now rethinking my decision because of one issue:

I ordered 1.5" uniseals....my local hydroshops (yes, plural) tell me that 1.5" are backordered. I don't like ordering things online, I like cash so this is the only way to acquire said materials. Well, I had to settle for 3/4" uniseals for pump returns to my chiller.

I have not yet tried to use the 3/4" uniseals. They look really small, much more difficult than the 3" uniseals I have already and they say Botanicare 19mm on it. WTFuck?

Has anyone used the 3/4 aka 19mm botanicare grommets with pvc?
It says 22mm holesaw on the grommet as well. I am uncertain about these 19mm grommets although they look like a miniature 3" uniseal. I don't need leaks whatsoever. Also, I don't know of what size hole saw to use. 22mm holesaw...yeah. I doubt home depot has that. 13/16" or 7/8" holesaw compatible?

I know this is a rant but I'm totally confused and really really really want to build my system and rock this chiller asap. It's getting hot already in the south.

It sounds like they didn't sell you Uniseals. The manufacturers website should tell you what hole saw size to use.

Those botanicare ones I used a 7/8 forstner bit. I don't think PVC would work well with those grommets, there more for building a ebb/flow bucket system. The Ngw 3/4 tees & elbows work great with those grommets.

19 mill is close enough to 3/4 you'd have to do some converting to find the size. I used those with barbed sprinkler fittings with no problem, but I don't see why there'd be a problem using pvc. Try it out on an old 5 gallon bucket, do it right into the bottom if you want and cap the tube and wait.

eff it. I just got a friend to order the correct uniseals from us plastics to his po box. Goddamn stoners can't run a hydro shop to save their lives...might as well have it be run from the government. It'd probably be just as efficient. Thanks for the help everyone.

Odd, I can't find their website anymore. There was a site that sold them at low price with all the install instructions and dimension numbers... I thought it was the manufacturer or their US distributer.

I used 2" shower drains from home depot for the last system I built. They come with 2 gaskets and screw togather. I even used the stainless steel grate (snaps in) in a aquaponic set up without any problem. Bullet proof.

That's a really good idea.
Undercurrents are just expensive versions of Heath Robinsons high flow converted Aquafarms,(undercurrent dude pm'd H relentlessly for every little detail, then marketed his system with a bunch of needlessly complicated doodads tacked on) Heath used ordinary PVC pipe, with compression fittings for his system. The compression plumbing fixtures are commonplace over here, but from what I gather from other posters, don't seem to exist across the pond.
