DIY - Simple, small EZCloner

Upon seeing an image by Hydrofome420 I quickly sprang into action to build this ezcloner. It's the most simplistic design I've found with little maintenance, no daily routines and fantastic clone success!

First let me say:
Cost of a new EZCloner - maybe 200.00 USD
Cost of this device - 25.00 USD

So let's get rolling... here is what you'll need:

1 - 5gal bucket with lid
1 - piece of 1/4 pipe
2 - 360 degree sprayers (found in sprinkler/dripper section - might be connected to a spike for ground placement unless they sell replacements)
1 - piece of 'funny pipe' also labelled as black 1/2inch OD
1 - Water pump (most have them lying around, if not go to wallmart)
1 - 1/4 T connector
2 - 1/4 barbed 90 elbow connectors
1 - 1/2inch threaded female to 1/4 inch adapter (found in sprinkler/dripper section)
1 - threaded male 1/2inch funny pipe connector
1 - Something to light tight container, I used the black vinyl sold in rolls
1 - bag of neoprene floor squares. I found these at the local dollar store in the Kid's section. I guess kids use them as 'safety blocks'...hahah
Now it's time to construct!

I cut a notch in the 5gal bucket (for the power cord) and marked the water level I wanted - just eye balling it.

Here is the water pump, along with the individual attachments needed. Starting from the bottom and going up:
Threaded funny pipe connector included with water pump
Small piece of funny pipe (JUST enough to connect pieces)
Threaded 1/2inch male funny pipe connector
Adapter female threaded 1/2inch connector with the final output 1/4inch

Assembled pieces

Now we build the 'sprayer'
This is 1/4 tubing with the T and elbow connectors. Makin a football goal. I just eyeballed the length on the 1/4inch going out from the T. Make sure to keep the 1/4 length as short as possible for the sprayers...as height will quickly become an issue.

Here the parts are assembled

I placed the pump in the bucket so I could trim up the connections to the T - as you can see they are quite smaller here than the parts list picture

Now for the lid!
Here is what I used to make the hole in the lid. Traced an air can bottom and cut out the hole. Yes...I was stoned and didnt exactly fit the 6 holes I could, so I stayed with 5

Here are the squares I found at the dollar store. It took a bit to find and trust me, not a single store clerk knew what I was asking about until I found them. Bag held 9 squares, so plenty incase of mess-ups

I used the same method - trace the can, cut out the circle

I then cut a slit to the middle of each circle and viola!

Notes: Make sure whatever sprayer heads you use that you position them so they are giving 100% coverage. Even though mine were labelled as 360 degree sprayers, they aren't really that good at it. Another good plus is you can move these around, pivot, rotate, etc....

...and yes, this was a seriously messy picture. :)

Additional note: Water temps. This thing warms up, as I assume a standard ezcloner from the store would as well. So far I haven't worried about it and am still getting roots so time will tell I suppose.

Hope this helps you guys/gals out there save some time, money and seeds!

Awesome, great job, Very detailed and spot on.

The best part is you can leave it for a week or more and not have to worry about
it.
I have found if you are only using it for cloning, which will take no more the 10 days tops, you really do not have to worry about light profing the bucket.
and with this cloner you do not need a dome or any rooting hormone.

Also I think I will use your way of snaking the power cord in to the bucket, mine is in a hole right thru the lid I like you way better.

Also I forgot to mention for the disks you can go to walmart or any such type of place and go in to the summer section and but 1 pool noodle.
the kids use them for floating and to fight with them.

Again great DIY Klutter.

Stay safe and high.

Obviously other parts could be used for this design.... my main intention was to get it up and out there. Up until spotting Hydrofome's, I had never considered this design. I had tried to bubblers, the domes, the cups with plastic wrap over them and the list goes on.

This design is the closest thing I saw to match the ez cloner 'guts' without all the pvc parts, cutting stuff with a hacksaw, etc. Took about 15mins at the store and another 15mins to put it all together. Even with the DIY's I saw out there, hardly any matched the low cost and work needed to build this one.

Hope it helps! God knows it is for me, I finally can now go on vacation without worrying about misting clones, etc.

Quick question on this, as I've never owned an EZ Cloner myself.

One thing I'm noticing with this awesome design is the water temps are fairly high. How does the store bought ez cloner deal with this, or are the elevated temps ok for it? I didnt see any kinda chiller installed in the ezcloner at the store on display, so assume the heat is good for the clones...?

Nice work dude, but I think a wick cloner is the ultimate 'easy' cloner. No electricity, no cords, no hassle. Just set that shit and forget it...

I used some soda bottles, perlite, weatherstripping and a strip of an old white T for a wick and created this little fella...

Check out these roots:

Props to pontiac for his killer wick cloner thread...

You can grow with that design as well. It's similar to the old school rainforest design. Yet, it's better the pump can be removed. I use to do same thing until I discovered the wick cloner with perlite and vermiculite as a medium. Easy, fast, and effective. Yet, that bucket setup is great too. I'd use antelco sprayers though. They rule over raindrip stuff. Nice bucket setup using the tubing...
Gotta Love it.....

how high is high? don't high temps help roots develop? yeah, someone had mentioned that the pump should be out of the water because it generates heat, no?

good question Klutter, Thats one thing I have never checked with the cloner,
It worked right out of the box so i never had a worry.

Burt if it become a problem for you, I wopuld get 2 or 3 small water bottles,
and just fill them up with water, and freeze them.
and use as needed.

I think I will be doing that as I have a 6 pot set up like my 4 pot, and I will be making it an areo based on your pump setup.

I may look into taking the pump out of the bucket... Based on the design I can just punch a hole through the top in the center, reverse the T so that it is upside down, then just use the top of the bucket to secure the pipe. I know the ice bottles will work, but the whole genius of this design was the total lack of daily maintenance. Misting or dumpin ice bottles is pretty much on the same level.

I'm gonna see what I can do with this and, if anything worth posting occurs I'll throw up a pic or two as it would enhance the design to eliminate the heat issue.

I think that yes, heat helps, but it's VERY VERY warm in there. I wouldnt be surprised if that water was seeing 90's. Now I still have clones in there though, and they havent died yet... so who knows.
