DIY rotogro / omega wheel ?

anyone done it? seems like if they are as good as people say, and expensive as they are, someone should try building one if they haven't already. seems like it wouldn't be TOO hard for someone with the time and tools.

Try the new Vertical Forums. It's the same thing flipped 90º with no moving parts.

yeah im talking about a rotating horizontal system! vertical is not the same in any way other than the shape.

i gotta tell you

i have yet to see consistent results with these things

if you ask me, they are a rich man's play thing. sure there are a couple growers if you search back on this forum that have had good results with them but is it really worth the headache and price? ill give you a hint theres a couple for sale every other month or so in my area and the guys can never get rid of them, they practically have to give them away .

Shape is the only thing the omega wheel has going for it. Unless you're one of the "upside down plants are better" people, axis has no effect on the plants. It does have an effect on the garden. By removing the motor, gears etc and flipping it vertically, you save a ton of money and maintenance while keeping all benefits.

i would totally do vertical if watering were easier to automate. its either handwater or have a fairly complex setup with piping, neither of which seem practical enough for me.

Flip it on its side (vertical) and keep the motor/ gearing. Set up 4 vertical spraybars equally spaced around the cylinder..roots get sprayed 4 times an hour as they pass the spraybars.

Its along similar lines to a system i`m building for the greenhouse, except its TAG and both the inside and outside surfaces can be planted, more than doubling the available area. An omega wheel would be able to sweep the floor if you planted it on the outside
The main problem with vertical cylinders is how to gain access to every plant without tearing everything apart.
