Germicidal UV bulbs? Sorry but they're cheap and if you enclosed them with an intake and outtake, it would be a DIY ozone generator... now why you would want to use an ozone generator is past me... carbon is 1000x better IMHO.

Sure they work; I constructed one with a neon light transformer and tin foil. It worked great at getting rid of the smell and replacing it with that sterile hospital smell. They are also great at causing health issues, so I have moved away from using ozone.
TyStik does have a point regarding price if you have to pay for the items you are using to construct with. In my case, I happened upon an old neon bar light someone was throwing away, removed the transformer, used two glass jars, two pieces of tin foil and two paperclips - voila, instant ozone generator. Use at your own risk.
