DIY light stand?

I

Anyone know of a good way to make a light stand for the inside of a tent? its a 4x8 tent but will not hold my lights. I need it to hold 100-120 lbs. Thats 2x50lb reflectors, and a fan. Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe even concrete blocks stacked up on both sides with a 4x4 wood going across the top?

I ued 1 1/2 pvc to reenforce the sides and built a ceiling grid using T's and 90's.

Get some metal unistrut.
They sell it right at home depot it comes in 8' lengths and is strong as shit. HD also sells all the parts and pieces to put it together like an erector set, all sorts of angle brackets, 90* corners and special nuts available to make building a frame easy. The channel design also allows you to move lights and fans like they are on a track if you set it up right.

Hmm....what does the connectors look like? How does it hook up on the corners? I'm not too mechanically inclined, do you know of any links? Thanks.

Can you put hooks in the ceiling above the tent ? If so you can support your tent poles that way . a couple hooks in the beams above the tent with chain going down to the top poles . yeah it means a slit or 2 in the top of the tent , but good foil tape will make it light proof again . not that any tent i've seen is 100% light proof .

No place to hang the lights above. Its all drywall above, I would rather not risk using a stud finder because these reflectors are so heavy.

+1. Works well with swag hooks when using the bolt instead of the screw tip.

Thanks fellas I'm going to just return it and buy a better one. Are all the ebay grow tents cheap? This is my second one and they are both the same piece of crap framing that can't hold anything but a 4 foot flourscent. Anyone know a link to a decent ones?

I haven't used them so I cannot support this claim, but Gorilla Grow tents are supposed to be stronger than the average tents. They are also supposed to be adjustable in height as well. You could give them a try. Here is the link http://www.gorillagrowtent.com/ . I hope this may be what you are looking for. Another thing to remember is that all tents are not created equally. Some of the companies out there are still using inferior quality materials and simply not putting enough attention to the details.

May I inquire as to which hoods you are using?

I got 2 raptor 8 inch hoods. They're heavy. When I bought the tent the ad said it can hold 300+ lbs. I'm going to look into the gorilla grow tents.

Is pvc strong enough to use to make a light stand that will hold up to 150 lbs? I was thinking something like this, but with larger diameter pvc?

That would work on a larger scale if you could find a wooden dowl that fits snuggly in the pipe across the top .
