DIY evap cooler for us desert dwellers

this is for those of us who live in the desert and battle with low Rh constantly. im sitting at 42% most of the time and im trying to dial my environment with co2 so i need perfection all across the boards. this isnt to cool off my room, it's merely to raise Rh to within acceptable levels.

everything was recycled from stuff i already had except for the evap cooler pad and a pack of zip ties so im 16 dollars into this project lol.

if you are a DIY'er on any level this should be really simple and straight forward.

i used a dremel to cut out the lid area for the pad and then cut that to size. i put a bunch of holes around the rim to zip tie the pad to. i also made a baffle of sorts out of the pads that hangs downward to prevent the sprayers from shooting out the sides of the container. no leaks yet.

i then cut a circular hole for my fan to mount to but you could also cut a bigger hole and plumb an exhasut fan from further away too. warm air also helps with the humidity so if you can pull through your lights and then pump into this box the evaporation should help cool it down as well(in theory)

you could do a small version of this with a 5 gal bucket and holes around the top. line the inside of bucket with pad and then a pump inside that drips water down over the pad with a simple home made drip ring manifold. then plumb in your air source through the lid and youre done.

this DIY is boxer approved.......

i will post updates on how this unit performs. my guess is it will take a while to take effect because of how met tent is setup. i run a co2 generator outside my tent and pull tons of outside room air through my tent thus refreshing the air/co2 simultaneously. my tent is in a room that is approximately 20x30 so idk whether or not this little unit will raise that entire rooms Rh enough to benefit but just feeling the air coming out i know it would work if my tent was sealed or in a regular size bedroom.

Very nice work! I live in a similar environment (110F+, 10% RH) and cool my RV home with a swampcooler that exhausts from my growroom after cooling the entire RV. Drops temps about 30F except when monsoons hit. Lotta humidity this summer where I'm at.

so its been up and running for a week and its raised my Rh by 10%
its still not ideal but i can feel the difference for sure. it would be more than enough in a sealed tent but since i am pulling a TON of airflow through my tent it is quickly extracted into the big ass room
