Folks,

I see a lot of folks special ordering bulkhead drains for their setups as they're not available at most local stores. Check out the site below for a way to make your own bulkhead fittings from PVC electrical conduit. Works great, and much cheaper..

Enjoy!

these are water tight fittings for running cable to air conditioners and the like aval at blowes or homedepot they have a 1/2" or 3/4" the ring that screwes down on the o ring can be replaces with a threaded pipe coupler to a slip and u just cut piece of pipe to fit slip coupler to set the water leval in tray they also come in straifgt or 90 deg configurations

Those bulkhead fittings literally cost me $1 at the store ($2 for a pair of bulkhead fittings, 4 pcs risers, and 2 pcs screens). I know hydro shops aren't available to everyone, but it would literally cost me more money, more time, and end up with an inferior, non-standard (hole size) product going the DIY route. This isn't too uncommon if you look at the TCO (total cost of ownership / operation) on most DIY projects around here.

I found this online shop recently and they stock a lot of items for a decent price. The bonus thing is that they deliver to Canada via USPS which is awesome (you know what i mean if you live in Canada and had something delivered Fedex/UPS/DHL).

My hydro shop sells the Botanicare kit with 2 bulkheads, two screens, and maybe 2 risers for $15. They sell just the bulkhead for like 5-6$. Not cheap for some plastic.

Any more than $5 for the set is robbery.

Even $5 isn't cheap by any standards, but I'm pretty used to paying pretty high markups at hydro store for this hobby so I guess you could say I'm a bit desensitized.
