DIY aerocloner

Hey all,

I decided to make an aerocloner. I bought a 10' stick of 1/2" pipe, 4 90* elbows, 3 T's, a threaded to solvent coupling and a couple bags of sprayers (supposed to be 10 a bag, I got 9 in one, 13 in the other???):

I already had the primer and glue, the rubbermaid tub, the Mag Drive 3 (350 gph), and had bought some 2" neoprene discs from the hydro store many moons ago in preparation for this.

First, I took some measurements, cut my PVC, then mocked it up. After I was satisfied with it, I measured and drilled with a pilot bit the holes for the sprayers. Then, using a tap tool:

I tapped the holes out and installed the sprayers, they were a tight fit!

Then, I flushed out any bits of PVC with water, dried the pipes, and glued them together. If you've never used pvc glue and primer, read the instructions on the can and follow them! :D

And here it is:

For the lid, I measured out 10 holes. I can add more later if needed, but 10 is plenty for my purposes. I cut them out using a hole saw, after making a pilot hole in the center, heres a pic of a pilot hole to illustrate what I mean:

A hole saw has a bit in the center for a guide, making a pilot allows for a precise hole to be cut. Here is the finished lid:

I'm gonna take a single cutting from a new mom to be, I'll post pics of it later when I take it.

very cool, but my question is why does the ez cloner use a much bigger pump in comparison? can you show us a pic of it working please?

Well, the reason for my use of the 350 gph pump is because I had it laying around not being used, so yeah, if you are going to buy a pump, get at least the mag drive 5 or 7. But it works pretty darn good. Sorry the pics aren't too great, but here is the single clone I took from a new mom-to-be: (3 days old in this pic)

Here is a couple different shots of the sprayers in action. The sprayers shoot water in streams and mist, for some reason the mist doesn't show in the pics...

But it works! I'm expecting to see roots any day now. I should mention that I put in a small submersible aquarium heater to keep the water warm, and also that I added a temp. monitoring station, with the "outdoor" sensor in the water. Works like a charm! Oh yeah, I'm using one of the neoprene plugs to route wires through, and that also works great, no leaks whatsoever.

I agree. I may have to do some stoner engineering to place the cuttings in the Bio-Buckets, I was thinking of using some larger neoprene or pool noodle to hold it up above the water level, but overall, I'm very satisfied with it. :D

does the water leak out of the lid?
what is supporting the pvc?
looks great
thanks

No water leaks out at all. The pvc is snug against two sides of the tub, so between that and the pvc coming up from the pump in the center of the manifold, it ain't goin' nowhere. Hope this helps

Yes, it was not too bad at all, took about an hours work, took longer waiting for the PVC glue to cure... :D

Thanks for stopping by!

they even have the sprayers and the pump at home depot? i already own an ez cloner 120 but i'm looking to make a smaller unit...i was gonna buy the ez 30 but i want to try a DIY project.

I had the pump, a Mag drive 3, but I'm sure you could find something there that would work decently, like a utility/sump pump. And yes, they had the sprayers there. All in the irrigation aisle. DIY rules! :)
