im setting up all over again and noticed my cool tube has really gathered some dust from last few rounds.

can dust cause bulb to burst?? im thinking the particles may heat up on the bulb and it may burst.

i never touch my bulbs with my fingers, how and what should i clean my bulb with without getting any sort of fibers on it that may cause it to burst?

Hello,

You can just wipe your bulb, and tube down with a towel. Your bulb won't burst. Especially if it is in a cool tube and is being vented.

dry lint free rag should do the trick ...try not to leave prints on the bulb ...but honestly I've touched bulbs and let the fire with no problems ....they make their envelopes so thick now that those things will not burst if you drop em' on the floor when they are lit...

anyway you remind me that my tube is dirty too ....I hate unhooking the ducting ....pain in the ass....

The bulbs should not be touched, and if they are touched they should be wiped down with alcohol BEFORE putting them in function again. They also need to be wiped down regularly to prevent dust build up. HPS bulbs put out so much heat that dust will crystalize on the surface and over a short period of time your lux and lumens will become drastically reduced.

This was the first lesson I learned from my guru, who knows his shit...he's an electrical engineer specialized in illumination :wink:

is not very good at all! then if you touched your bulbs with bare hands you should wipe it down with alcohol also like Blue stated above! had a bulb (metal halide) explode on me @ start-up! i was picking glass outta plants for weeks thank god they had just gone into flower no buds full of glass chards! good luck Sillyphilly

I singed my hair on my 1000wat6ter a couple of weeks ago stood up underneath the fucker, almost shit myself when my head hit it i relly thouht it was gonna smash, and i would be fucked as i wouldnt have been able to get 60 quid for a new 1000watt HPS for a week. Luckily apart from the unpleasenst smell, and slightly scorched head...no harm done, but go in there on my bloody knees now, lol!
