Digital Ballasts

Ive been saving up some money over the past few months, and I finnally have enough for a HPS ballast, and I was thinking of buying a digital ballast, so I can still use my 400w MH bulb.
Ive looked on Ebay, Bghydro, Discounthydro, and Hydroempire. Ive seen Galaxy and Lumatek.

Im lookin for some feedback from people who have purchased one, are they really more efficent? Would it be easy to hook the ballast up to my current reflector, or is there some special wiring?
It doesn't say, but what exactly does the lumatek-galaxy ballasts come with? Does it have a power cord and a cord that allready has a socket, or do I need to wire it to my current socket?

Thanks. :lurk:

I bought a 600 Lumatek for cheaper then i could find a sun system magnetic ballast. It starts up real fast. I cant answer as far as it being more efficient but ican tell you that it uses less amps. I have heard they shine brighter but ihave no proof of that. I have on a magnetic ballast running next to a lumatek. The plants under the lumatek look better(more flower sites) but it is hard to say for sure. By the way my lumatek has a 2 year old ge lucalox and the magnetic has a brand new horti and the Lumatek still SEEMS to outshine it.
I am not sure but i think maryland hydro probably has some very competititve prices on those as well.
Oh yeah the lumatek plugs into a hydrofarm hood but they do make adapter plugs for sunsystems and such. good luck
