Does anyone know if the 400w Digital Greenhouse ballasts are supposed to get VERY hot and make a high pitch squeeling sound? its not loud, but detectable. i cant touch the ballast for more than 2-3 seconds after its been on for a while.
also, do u know if these ballasts are compatible with CMH bulbs?
thanks

No, they are not compatible. 250 and 400 CMH require HPS magnetic ballasts. 39 through 150 take MH ballasts and some (all?) will accept electronic ballasts. Check the ANSI code for the bulb you want. An S number means Sodium. An M number means Metal Halide.

I can't help with the rest. Given the new extruded aluminium cases are so tight, and have no vents in favor of fins, I'm not surprised to hear it's hot. But, to my unexperianced ear, your situation sounds smurfed.

From what I have heard, they are not supposed to get hot at all. Thats one of the advantages of them. They are also supposed to be dead silent

I also beliee that the 400w CMH are not compatible with digital ballasts
