Difference between male and female(not identifying)

I know there is a sticky for IDENTIFYING MALE AND FEMALE.
Ok.
Now after alot of searching it's hard to find the answer to my question, and i'm sure it will be simple to answer for alot of you.

If a male plant grows, does it have buds?

I have heard they have seeds in them, is this where "mid" comes from?(if so it means they grow males by the truckload around here)

Are they even useful for smoking?

It seems the general consensus was males are useless , but then someone said that they have seeds in the buds, and that is about 90% of what's on the streets ?

Males produce pollen not seeds. If a female plant becomes pollenated it makes seeds. If there is no male to produce pollen, there is no seeds. This is why we cull the males.

Well thanks tube dude !
But the question how did the illegal drug dealers get away with having seedy bud? it's not like they don't know, or maybe they don't care, kind of a "set it and forget it" idea ?
I'm just trying to see if there is a method to their madness i don't realize

The dealers must get the buds with seeds from the growers themselves (seems like there is a male in the grow area)

Is there anyway to seperate a male, and gather the pollen to pollinate (right word?) the female plant with a direct contact insemination of male pollen?
Or must the male plant release it on it's own?

Sometimes a female plant might get a few male flowers mixed in with her female buds. This is called a hermaphrodite plant as it has both male and female parts on the same plant. Just a few male flowers can seed a complete crop of indoor unseeded buds. This is why most of the time you see seeds in your "unseeded" buds.

Yes, this is called hand-pollination, done not only with cannabis plants of course.

Granny crow seems to think so.

Yes, you can make hash and such from males!

Dry and try! Male plants vary greatly depending on the strain! Now, if your plants have some Moroccan genetics in their background.......

Cultivation of Cannabis sativa L. in northern Morocco. (abst – 2005)
Cultivation of Cannabis sativa L. in northern Moro... [Bull Narc. 2005] - PubMed - NCBI

"In addition, the present study establishes that male plants, often considered deficient in delta-9-THC, contain levels of the same order as those recorded for female plants, both in the leaves and in the tops."

These dudes were not doing the old "dry and try"! They were measuring the THC levels with qualitative analysis using high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection and also using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry! So I would say they were pretty sure of their results! ;)

And the way we have mixed strains in the US and elsewhere, that male of yours may just have the right genetics to pleasantly surprise you!

Even the pollen from males has THC! :D

Flavonoid glycosides and cannabinoids from the pollen of Cannabis sativa L.
(abst – 2005) Flavonoid glycosides and cannabinoids... [Phytochem Anal. 2005 Jan-Feb] - PubMed - NCBI

" The identified cannabinoids were delta9-tetrahydrocannabiorcol, cannabidivarin, cannabicitran, delta9-tetrahydrocannabivarin, cannabicyclol, cannabidiol, cannabichromene, delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol, cannabigerol, cannabinol, dihydrocannabinol, cannabielsoin, 6a, 7, 10a-trihydroxytetrahydrocannabinol, 9, 10-epoxycannabitriol, 10-O-ethylcannabitriol, and 7, 8-dehydro-10-O-ethylcannabitriol."

Want to learn more facts about our favorite herb? Just send me an email for over 1000 pages of links to studies and articles about cannabis and cannabinoids! (See the bottom of my sig for my email! Hotmail sometimes can't handle my list. Yahoo & Gmail are fine! :))

There is a LOT more to cannabis than "just" getting high! :smoking:

Thanks for all the helpful replies!!
And i've seen both ends of the spectrum, the people who throw males and only take female buds then compost the plant., to the people who make hash/edibles/tinctures etc etc etc from EVERY piece of every plant.
