Diesel generator, fuel to power equation?

Is there an equation for the amount of fuel a diesel generator uses, to how much power it puts out?

I'm sure that would depend on too many factors for an universal formula. It would be like trying to make a formula for how many miles you could drive all a car on a full tank. Different engine sizes use more/less gas. Quality of fuel, air to fuel ratios, oil pressures, humidity, work load and all kinds of other things would come into play. And by this I mean the engines in the generators not a car. Don't take my word on it though I have only limited experience with those things.

I'm sure if you looked at the specs for a generator you could get a rough estimate, do you have any in mind?

My bad, I think I miss understood the question. I thought he was asking about more of an universal formula not one for a specific machine. I'm sure with the specs of a certain model you could figure it out. Oops
