good evening ic maggers, i have come to a scary conclusion this evening whilst reading here. I keep my seeds in my closet and currently the closet is about 50 degrees fahrenheit.

i do take them in and out of the closet to work with them and so they are brought to room temp and back every month (estimate) perhaps. also the closet will get warm during summer.

how concerned should i be? should i keep the seeds in a fridge or freezer or something after it starts to warm up? give me your expert advice gang, i know its waiting to be had.

Well this really belongs in another forum but it's hard to say if any damage has been done. Warmer temps certainly decrease the viability. I store mine in a glass jar in the crisper of the fridge.

fridge usually is best but i believe that is just for long period storage...im sure yours are fine...seeds can handle a lot..except water

yeah sorry my bad about the misc forum placement.. but they are already paired with dessicant packs so i should be good in that regard. i just remember people saying that once you have them stored in the fridge they have to be used once warmed. am i recalling this incorrectly then?

HEy-

can't u just take some seeds and drop it in a glass of water. If it sinks to the bottom, you're good to go, but if it floats, the seeds are dead. I've not seen this technique used on mj, but I've seen it on other flowering and fruiting plants...but I don't see why this test can't be applied to mj seeds...

Storage:

And also, regarding storage, you'd do well to dress the seeds first, perhaps. Dressing the seed does give it a better shelf life, in addition to making them healthier. Here's the link:

The link will mention "amrutpani"- here's how to make it:

Easy to make. No store bought ingredients, all taken from motha nature...
In reality, the dung doesn't have to come from a "desi" cow- it just has to come from a cow grown in a ranch rather than in a typical large scale corporate slaughterhouse, due to hygenic reasons.

that some interesting stuff naga.. im storin these for years however not really lookin to pop em now. haha also i dont have access to banyan trees and stuff thats quite the sweet recipe however. definitely an area of expertise that i would expect from the east.

Im living in the great plains currently so while manure is abundant, its always pig manure round here.

give it the squeeze test.take a seed and slightly squeeze if it pops than it wasnt ment to be. i like this method better than the drop in water method, because sometimes viable seeds float..i found a seed awhile ago on my carpet that had to be like 2 years old. i squeezed it , it survived and i germed it just to see what seeds can handle. and it germed like normal.. of course the prefered storage is in the fridge but they can take alot..
