Did I Kill All My Plants?

Baby Rabies

Help! I took my plants outside to water them yesterday and they went into shock from the cold air and wind. They have all been wilting since yesterday and they don't seem to be recovering. Is there anything I can do for them?

1st what were the temps like?
2nd Sun intensity?
3rd Ever done this before?

Under normal conditions and not sure what is considered normal frost must usually be present to kill a plant. Not always the case!!! When plants frost outside it does not die from the frost but wrather the rapid defrosting that occurs. I only mention this because I also put my plants outside a few hours each day but that is just it a few hours maybe 2 or 3 just to harden them to the sun in my area. Leaving them outside to long may hurt them due to the natural radiation the sun puts off and a harmful ingredient to growth on a plant not use to it. Not all plants are capable of withstanding cold temps more than a few moments while others will thrive in a cooler/colder enviroment. I hope this may have helped a little but I have no real idea of the damage done.

It was below 30 degrees and windy. It was cloudy. This is only my second grow and my first in the winter time. Thanks for the info

below 30 = freezing.

the water in the plants might have frozen and cause cellular damage to them by the formation of ice (like microscopic knives). don't do that

I don't understand the rationale of taking a tropical plant outdoors, in below freezing conditions simply to provide them water.
Am I missing something here?
Were you flushing the soil, which would be a large amount of drainage?
I normally use a plastic storage tub, placing two 2x4's as supports to balance the pot on. It can drain in to the tub and you discard the excess when done.

Good luck but, it sounds like tissue damage has occurred and the plants may not recover.

I was taking them outside to let the water drain. I need to get some plastic tubs to catch the excess water for my next grow.

Size, age of plants and amount of damage will be the deciding factor on whether they can recover

You can find any number of size and shapes.
These may be best as you might be able to have them in your grow room, under the pots.

You can place something inside, in the center and place the top on to offer some support. If you cut some drain holes around the center, the water can drain in the tote and be discarded as needed.
