OK guys. I am having a little trouble comprehending the idea of the DIY scrubbers in the threads 'round here. I want to build one. A big one. Like 4ft by 18 inches or something. If I were to do that, would I need to make two mesh walls. An inner and an outer? The design in my head is telling me to make a mesh wall then another on the inside of that about two inches or so. Then fill the space in between with "replacement carbon"? Then Fashion two "end caps"? One with a hole in it in the corrosponding diameter of the exhaust?

Does this make sense?? I think I can build one for way cheaper than they retail. I have never seen a big one in person though, so I am kinda wingin' it with the threads here.

That's a pretty big one, but you'll save a fortune DIY'in it.
If you're going that big you need to make sure you've got enough carbon to scrub the air in the short time it passes, yet doesn't impede airflow enough. A little trial and error is in order!

Thanks man. Ya I wanna make a big one. I figure the air would move through a larger surface area easier than a smaller one.

I know it can be done as I have seen pics of huge scrubbers. Should be an interesting project. I will post my endeavors. LOL!

I just cant see coughin up 400 bucks for a big scrubber.

Big is not the important factor, effective flow through is. You would need a large fan for a four foot unit to be effective. Take a look at my design in the DIY sticky thread, 20 bucks, lasts a year, and cleans two bloom rooms for that year.

Nice Haps! I dont know how it missed that one. The pics you posted put it into perspective for me. I think I could make a few of those on the cheap. Wally world sells the carbon??? I am assuming in the aquarium aisle?? I am going with that design.

Hehe. I knew this thread would bring the experts in to help me out.

Were you planning on using the scrubber as a stand alone? Fan size probably wouldn't be much of an issue than, and if you built it yourself you'd save enough money to get that big ass fan. Gotta agree with you on shelling out 400 bucks though for something that was probably slave labored down in Mexico or some shit...
