Deodorizing Gels?

Hey IC, long time lurker, first thread here. Reading IC has inspired me to start my first grow. Ended up building a 2'x2'x3' cabinet and threw some bag seed in some pots. Boom, things are growing. Way excited, but am a little worried about the coming smell -- even with only 3 plants. I was going to build a carbon scrubber with a fan, but wondered if the deodorizing gels I've seen on some hydro sites might do just as well for such small grow space. Should I just go the PC fan and scrubber route or will gels work fine for such a small setup?

Where is your grow room air going?

When I started my first grow with only 4 plants and a 400w lamp I had no real plan for odor control. My grow cab vents to an attic crawl space and I was hoping the smell would just dissipate. It didn't and at about 6 weeks of flowering a strong funk started coming from the light fixtures and other air channels with access to the attic. I ended up installing a DIY carbon filter. Incidentally I'm still running the same filter 5+ years later and there is still no smell. I can't imagine that gel would of solved my odor problem.

It will depend on the strain, and since it's bag seed you may have to wait to get a smell level.

Some strains don't have much odour at all, like the one I've got going. And any smell would easily be covered by the gels.

If it gets stank then you may have to go for a carbon scrubber, DIY works great.

Thanks for the recommendations. I decided to go with building a DIY carbon filter simply because I can't afford having any smell for any amount of time. If that's the safest bet, then I'll just roll with that.

Wow, good set of ideas there. The area around the grow smells bad already. Maybe that would fix those issues too. I might go ahead and do a combination of the two since I already picked up a fan and Zalman controller.

Ya ona gel would be the way to go. Get the 4L tub and their breeze fan and you'll be good to go

I've used the ona gel in small 3x2 tent and it did surprisingly w3ll wit smell.

There are, and in fact you can make your own.....

Ona works for a small grow. but i really dislike the various smells of Ona. so for a grow your size i'd hookup a DIY computer fan/filter combo and put a Vaportek disc in the passive intake. outside the cab, in another part of the room i'd use a Glade plugin. that way if your filter fails you still got cover. it's over-kill. but cheap insurance.

filter filter filter filter... no reason not to have one for 1 plant or 100.. get the ona gel to if ya want but carbon filter is the way to go.
